Worksite Wednesday: The Value of a Thorough Inspection
A roof replacement doesn't always start on the roof.
During our inspection of this home, we performed an attic inspection and identified significant spacing in the existing plank decking before a single shingle was removed. By inspecting the decking ahead of time, we were able to document the condition and work with the insurance company before the project began.
Once the roof was removed, the decking concerns we identified were confirmed. Because the issue had been properly documented during the inspection process, we were able to get the re-deck approved by insurance, saving the homeowner from paying for the upgrade out of pocket.
To provide a solid nailing surface and bring the roof system up to current standards, we installed new OSB decking over the existing plank deck before installing the new roof.
But the project didn't stop there. We were also able to help the homeowner completely transform the exterior with new siding, freshly painted garage doors, and updated window trim, giving the home a clean, refreshed appearance.
β Attic inspection performed before the project
β Decking concerns identified before tear-off
β Re-deck approved by insurance
β New OSB decking installed over existing plank decking
β New siding installed
β Garage doors and window trim painted
β Homeowner informed every step of the way
This project is a great example of how a thorough inspection, proper documentation, and attention to detail can help homeowners maximize their insurance benefits while improving the appearance and protection of their home.
