The Oklahoma heat has been no joke these past few weeks. 🥵 107° is beginning to feel like the new normal, and that means your air conditioner has been working overtime. Here are 5 simple things you can do to help it keep up:
• A dirty filter makes your system work harder. Check it regularly and replace it when it’s dirty.
• Give your condenser some breathing room. Clear away grass, weeds, leaves, and anything else crowding the unit.
• Keeping direct sunlight out can reduce the heat coming into your home and make it easier for your AC to maintain a comfortable temperature.
• If you can, run the oven, dryer, and other heat-producing appliances in the morning or evening instead of during the hottest part of the day.
• When it’s 100°+ outside, dropping the thermostat way down won’t necessarily cool your house faster. Set a reasonable target and let it do its job.
And one more thing: if your air conditioner runs constantly, blows warm air, or struggles to keep your home comfortable, don’t ignore it. A small issue can become a bigger, more expensive problem during a heat wave.
