In Episode 4 of the South of 8th Series, our CEO sat down with Dr. Adam Alexander of the and .health to explore the powerful connection between health, place, and community.

Together, they unpack how the built environment shapes real health outcomes; from access to care and transportation to the everyday conditions that influence how people live, move, and thrive.

Drawing from the collective work in Eastside on the South of 8th (So8th) masterplan, this dialogue reflects how community-rooted strategies and partnerships can support healthier, more equitable development; aligning systems where public health insight meets spatial strategy to create environments that don’t just look better, but actually support people’s well-being.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, our CEO joined a panel discussion organized by NOMAS (.nomas) and The Almighty S (She), alongside Juana Gomez () and Melissa Lynn () and it was powerful.

The discussion walked the audience through transparent perspectives on how women navigate and lead in design fields that haven’t always been built with us in mind — from advocating for your ideas to realizing you may have to create your own path.

While more women are entering these professions, the work ahead is about who holds power, shapes decisions, and creates pathways for others to follow. It was hopeful to see so many young women in the room and our next generation of design leaders.

Shoutout to the student organizers (Josue, Kierra, and team) for such a thoughtful event and for creating spaces for these stories to be shared!

Supporting the preservation and interpretation of the historic alongside the Threatt family descendants has been one of the greatest honors of our work as an organization. Their generational leadership and stewardship continues to expand public understanding of Oklahoma history and the essential role Black spaces played along Route 66; as sites of safety, entrepreneurship, dignity, and cultural vibrancy.

Through this partnership we’ve planned and shaped exhibition themes and design that center deeper narratives of Black migration, mobility, refuge, and joy along the Mother Road. The storytelling also embraces the personality and folklore that make Route 66 iconic, from Pretty Boy Floyd’s visit to the layered, everyday histories that give the Station its unique texture, experience, and significance.

Our partnership with the Threatt Station reflects what preservation looks like when familial knowledge shapes design.

Collaborating with the Threatt family over the years has evolved from a professional relationship into a friendship and extended family. To know them is to adore them! We’re incredibly grateful to the Threatts and proud to be part of bringing this living history forward to support generational continuity through the built environment.

Be on the lookout for the grand opening later this year! ⛽️📍

In episode 3 of the So8th Series our CEO sat down with Lisa Chronister, Assistant Planning Director at the , to reflect on how collaboration between cities and community-rooted organizations can strengthen planning outcomes for all.

This conversation explored how the South of 8th masterplan has supported ongoing City implementation around land use and regulatory tools that better reflect neighborhood priorities. It’s a reminder that when local organizations and municipal leadership work together, planning can more fully respond to a community’s vision while strengthening thoughtful, long-term growth and inclusion that aligns with neighborhood context.

So8th is a model example where community knowledge and City implementation can positively impact the built environment for the long-term.

Urban challenges are interconnected by design, and we’re grateful for the thinkers and leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who named this truth long before us. These words continue to guide how we approach the work: centering neighborhoods as systems, not silos, while treating culture as a structural part of how cities grow.

We’re grateful for Dr. King’s impact and how our work has been shaped by his legacy, community wisdom, and the call to carry a responsibility to move progress forward with care.
