Long before TCO standards were published, JTC has been using total cost of ownership analyses with our customers to help them make the best decisions for their test facilities. Lifecycle costs should always be an important metric in evaluating equipment and/or systems purchasing and maintenance.

Consider a simple comparison of an exhaust noise suppressor costing 800k (A) vs. one costing 1.2mil (B). Initially, the cost is 50% more for B than A. However, suppressor A has a maintenance cycle of 2 years at a cost of 170k and 5 days of facility downtime per cycle. Suppressor B has a maintenance cycle of 7 years at a cost of $40k and 1 day of facility downtime per cycle.

By averaging the maintenance costs over yearly periods, you will discover that suppressor A becomes a more expensive purchase in year 6, and over a 20-year lifespan, suppressor A cost of ownership is 2.5mil, while suppressor B cost of ownership is 1.31mil. Suppressor B represents almost a 50% savings over suppressor A. Not to mention, the expense associated with 50 days of downtime over the lifecycle of suppressor A vs. less than 3 days for suppressor B, is significant to budgets and mission readiness.

Increasing lifespan, extending maintenance cycles, and lowering maintenance costs is important to JTC. We understand that through innovative design, properly selected materials, and quality workmanship, we can lower lifecycle costs and total cost of ownership for our customers. If you have not considered the lifecycle cost impact associated with your equipment purchases, let us help you today.
