We were proud to be a part this year’s Construct My Future summer camp. This unique, four-day experience gives middle school students hands-on exposure to the many career paths within the construction industry.

Throughout the week, campers learned about trades like masonry, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and heavy equipment operation through interactive stations, team challenges, and real-world demonstrations led by industry professionals. They got to wear safety gear, handle tools under supervision, and even perform hands on task like laying brick and welding, sparking curiosity, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment.

Programs like this are essential for planting the seed early showing students that construction is not only a viable career, but also one full of creativity, teamwork, and purpose. We’re always excited to support the next generation of skilled tradespeople!

Throwback Thursday- Back to 2014, Al Slattery Masonry completed Offices at Market Center in Oklahoma City, OK. The scope of work consisted of 40,000 Architectural CMU. This project completed on schedule and safely lead by one of our great partners at Clyde Riggs Construction.

Workforce Wednesday

Today we want to recognize Ayden Beasley for an outstanding accomplishment at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference held in Atlanta last week.

After earning the Oklahoma state championship, Ayden represented Oklahoma in the national masonry competition, competing against more than 40 of the best masonry students from across the country. During a demanding six-hour hands-on competition, participants were evaluated on layout, craftsmanship, accuracy, safety, and overall masonry skills. Ayden earned an impressive 7th-place finish nationally.

Ayden joined ASMI last summer and recently graduated from high school after completing his second year in the masonry program at Mid-Del Technology Center . He is one of nine Mid-Del masonry students who have joined the ASMI team, and we have enjoyed watching his skills and confidence grow over the past year.

SkillsUSA is one of the nation's premier career and technical education organizations, providing students the opportunity to showcase their abilities against the best young tradespeople in the country. Qualifying for the national competition is a significant accomplishment, and finishing in the top 10 nationally is something Ayden should be very proud of.

Congratulations, Ayden, on representing Oklahoma, Mid-Del Technology Center, and ASMI so well. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for you in the masonry industry.

Masonry Monday

Today we're highlighting our work at the Catlett Music Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

ASMI has partnered with Thompson Construction and Restek, Inc to complete cast stone coping replacement and inspection work. Over time, the original connection system failed, causing sections of the cast stone to become dislodged from the structure.

We're proud to be part of the team deploying the personnel and equipment needed to safely restore this beautiful masonry building. Originally constructed in 1986, the Catlett Music Center features distinctive angular architecture complemented by brick masonry and cast stone accents that have made it a recognizable landmark on campus for nearly 40 years.

We look forward to helping preserve this building for future generations of OU students and faculty.

Throwback Thursday!

Here is a look back to 2006 at one of our favorite projects, the Kohls in Midwest City, OK. This project was challenging, due to the aggressive schedule by the general contractor and owner.

We are proud of the work we did on this project; it was completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule in just 45 days!! We are grateful to our clients for trusting us with their vision to build not only this location but 3 additional locations.

At ASMI, investing in the next generation of masons is not an afterthought, it is part of who we are. Through our in-house Apprentice Program, participants gain hands-on experience building real projects from day one. Every project, every milestone is designed to challenge skill level and grow confidence all the way through graduation.

Wednesdays are for learning, building, and becoming. Whether it is a first-year apprentice laying their first block or an advanced student fine-tuning their craft, the progress made each week inside this program is something we are genuinely proud of.

And that progress matters beyond the classroom. When contractors commit to developing skilled tradespeople, the entire industry moves forward. The apprenticeship model works, not just for the individual, but for every project they will ever touch.

Masonry Monday

Built to Stand. Built to Last.

The 2026 St. Jude Dream Home is making history as one of the first St. Jude Dream Homes built with concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction — and there's a reason that matters beyond curb appeal.

Storm Season Ready Reinforced CMU has the mass to resist the large uplift and overturning forces of tornadoes and high-wind events. In certified testing, masonry cavity walls withstood three 15-lb 2x4 "missile" impacts fired at a minimum of 100 mph — with zero pe*******on to the interior. Masonry is recognized in FEMA P-361 as a proven material for tornado and hurricane shelters.

Fire Resistant by Nature CMUs are noncombustible — proven to slow and block the progression of flames, giving occupants time to escape and keeping fire contained. Concrete masonry holds the highest flame spread classification: Class A. Untreated wood panels offer only 15–30 minutes of fire resistance, while CMU walls are rated from 2 to 4 hours under ASTM E-119 testing standards.
