I have retired as an electrician and closed my company permanently.

Service calls entail fixing or replacing existing lighting, switches, or outlets that aren't working properly. Troubleshooting why something isn't working. If it involves going into an attic I can't do that. I'm unable to do that because of long covid complications.

I will only be available for service calls going forward.

Q:
What are some common home electrical problems?
A:
Common residential problems include defective switches and bulbs, tripping circuit breakers, loose wiring, dead outlets and circuit overloads. Other problems may involve outlet sparks, power surges, redundant wiring, power sags and outages.
Light bulb defects include bulbs burning out at a higher rate, flickering lights and recessed lights. Flickering may result from a poor connection in the circuit. This could lead to broken connections, causing the constant blinking of the lights. It can also be caused by a faulty main wire connection in the circuit system. When the light bulb burns at a higher rate, it signifies the use of poor quality bulbs.
Dead outlets are caused by poor connections along the circuit or failure to reset breakers. Overuse of the power connection cords causes failure of some portions to work. Strain on the circuit connection by using multiple electrical appliances may cause circuit overloads. Electrical outlet problems are caused by tripped breakers or burnt outlets. Wear and tear of wires and damaged power cables can cause loose wiring.
Power spikes and surges are caused by sudden bursts of excess voltage arising from accidents and storms. They can destroy home appliances and electrical equipments. Clustering of improperly uncapped and terminated wires causes redundant wiring. Power outages, dips and sags are caused by brief low voltage periods along the connection. Call a qualified electrical contractor in your area to repair defective switches, tripping circuit breakers, loose wiring, dead outlets and circuit overloads, outlet sparks, power surges, redundant wiring, power sags and outages where possible.

What is the difference between an AFCI and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)?

There is a major difference between the functioning of an AFCI as compared to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter). The function of the GFCI is to protect people from the deadly effects of electric shock that could occur if parts of an electrical appliance or tool become energized due to a ground fault. The function of the AFCI is to protect the branch circuit wiring from dangerous arcing faults that could initiate an electrical fire.

AFCI and GFCI technologies can co-exist with each other and are a great complement for the most complete protection that can be provided on a circuit.
