I have a limited supply of cut and split firewood. $300/cord delivered between Averill Park and Chatham. Hardwood cut 16-20 inches, not designer style. Some of it is green some some of it is dry, some big some small. It'll all burn in the right fire at the right time.

Some current work.

On this job I am salvaging the ash affected by EAB and also cutting some canopy gaps in areas with low quality soft maple and beech. The goal is to establish another cohort of regeneration in these gaps and then expand the openings in future harvests.

As a whole this property has some magnificent timber on it. I am truly grateful to be able to work with great land owners who care.

Some timber stand improvement work from last winter. This project was made possible with funding from the NRCS. The objective was to remove the beech and soft maple understory to create a favorable situation to get some oak regeneration established.

Large snags and the larger hemlocks are left for wildlife habit. Most of the cut wood will be left to deter deer browsing. A portion of it will be picked up for firewood and the subsequent soil scarification should make for a good seed bed.

An herbicide was applied to the cut stumps to inhibit resproiting and it so far has been effective.

Woods roads are a huge asset to landowners and land managers. Climate change is stressing some of these infrastructure, off season rains and higher than average volumes have tested their durability. One effective method to divert water but sill maintain a drivable surface is to install these belt drains. They are cheap and effective and nearly maintenance free.

A small clearing job and an access from this past fall. The wet weather and later freezes has made it difficult to create momentum logging during the fall. Alternative work has been great to keep the wheels turning.

I cut this stand last summer in East Nassau NY. It is enrolled in the 480a forest management program.

This stand is 22 acres and is predominantly white pine with some hardwoods inter mixed. There had been two entries into the stand in the last 20 years by another contractor, the first was a thinning and the second was a storm damage clean up. The response to both entries was positive with some black birch and white pine regeneration. Growth rate was good but the over all quality of the timber was on the poorer side. The average dbh was approaching 22". The goal was to remove the mature and the low quality multi-stemmed white pine and begin the transition to a mixed hardwood and white pine stand.

The harvest took 2 months (Oct.1 - Nov.25) to complete and grossed
78,400 bdft of grade pine saw logs
32,000 bdft 8' low grade pine logs
256 tons of pine pulp
56 cords of log length fire wood
All the products with the exception of the pine pulp were sold to companies within a half hour drive of the job and were then sold back into the local community.

Future management concerns are deer browse and the spread of fern pockets. Wind throw is also a consern.
