A very humid air mass over our area for the next two days may trigger thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall from this afternoon thru Saturday evening. Flood Watches have been issued for
northern CT and Fairfield county in southern CT.

A 4-day heat wave is forecast next week from Sunday through Wednesday with a continuation of
very humid conditions.

The NAMHRES model is forecasting the rainfall to be very scattered in nature. Scattered swaths of rain of 2 to 4” over the next 36 hours. Rainfall rates of 1” – 2” per hour are possible in any thunderstorms that develop.

Severe thunderstorms are not expected. However, the primary risk is from very heavy rainfall in
non-severe thunderstorms this afternoon thru Saturday afternoon.

WIND ADVISORIES ISSUED FOR CONNECTICUT…A STRONG COLD FRONT IS FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS THE STATE LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS EVENING…

The National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories for the entire state starting this morning and continuing until 9:00 PM this evening. A strong cold front (see map to the right) will move across the state from west to east between 5:00 - 7:00 PM this evening.

Southerly winds are expected to develop well ahead of the cold front. Winds are expected to begin increasing around noontime across the state and gust to around 35 - 45 MPH by 5:00 PM. As the cold front moves across the state, winds are forecast to gust from the south at 45 – 55 MPH ahead of the front between 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The strongest winds are expected along the coast and in the higher elevations. Winds are then forecast to shift to the west and then northwest this evening after the cold front passes. Winds are forecast to subside down to gusts of less than 30 MPH after 9:00 PM.

The gusty winds may cause some scattered power outages. However, the leaves are off most trees, and this should keep the number of outages in the minor impact range. Some moderate to briefly heavy rainfall may cause some minor urban flooding (especially where drains are still clogged with leaves). Tides will be falling during the strongest south winds therefore no coastal flooding is expected.
