If you have a irrigation system, you really should consider winterizing your system. Although it is less likely that anything below ground will freeze in the Memphis area, anything above ground has a greater risk of freezing. In addition all backflow preventers should have a insulated sock and cover. Even with insulation, we have temperatures in the Midsouth that are low enough to still cause damage to your backflow.

One of the most costly parts of the irrigation system is a backflow preventer. A backflow will prevent drinking water from being contaminated by products applied to your landscape. A backflow that is damaged from freezing can cost up to $700 to replace, and has to be installed by a licensed plumber.
