This week, learn about important work in the Olympia/Lacey area to improve access to literacy education and resources in on Architecture in the Community. The proposed 4,500sf literacy center is a collaborative effort between St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and many local organizations, designed by KMB architects' Ruben Nunez.

Barbara Clarkson is on a mission to transform lives through literacy education. This weeks highlights the international work of KMB architects Associate, Bryan Beley. Bryan has been working collaboratively with a team of dedicated personnel with the vision to improve access to medical care and education to the people of Gambella, Ethiopia. Earlier this year, the team took a trip to raise support for the project.

We love an opportunity to work with the communities in which we reside. James Hill is currently collaborating with the Port of Chehalis and the Chehalis School District to conduct a feasibility study which explores development options for two local school properties acquired by the Port. Current possible options include: a daycare facility, an apartment building or retail/higher education space.

With another month or two to go before an ongoing feasibility study on the R.E. Bennett and Cascade Elementary School buildings and site is complete, the firm conducting the study

We're just under halfway through the month of May, and the Intercity Transit Bicycle Commuter Challenge! KMB architects is proud to be participating for the second year in a row, challenging our employees to try active commuting and reduce their carbon footprint.

So far this month, our staff have logged over 55 miles of commuting via bicycle, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the month has in store.

KMB architects is a proud member of the design community in Olympia, Washington. The organization Olympians for People-Oriented Places (O-POP) was founded in 2015 with the goal to support a compact, diverse Olympia designed around attractive public spaces. O-POP has announced activities throughout the month of May which celebrate and cultivate interest in effective municipal design.
