"To every woman or young girl wondering if they belong in this field: don't let doubt hold you back." — Nadiia, CAD and LiDAR Technician 👩‍💻

Today, on National Women in Engineering Day, we're proud to celebrate Nadiia and the impact she makes at R.W. Every day, she turns millions of LiDAR scan points into precise, actionable maps using advanced tools like TopoDOT, giving our clients the accurate data they need to design and build with confidence.

Nadiia is proof that success in this field doesn't depend on gender, it depends on your mindset. If you have strong logic, great spatial awareness and a sharp eye for detail, you already have the perfect foundation.

Since joining R.W., she says what stands out most is a workplace that embraces new technology rather than fearing it. It's a rare balance of high-tech innovation and a warm, supportive community.

We're proud to have you on the team, Nadiia!

Summer is here, and for our field crews, that means long days in the sun. ☀️

Surveying doesn't stop for the heat, so we make sure our team is prepared before stepping on site. That means wearing breathable clothing, sun protection, staying hydrated and keeping a close eye on every crew member throughout the day.

Knowing the signs of heat exhaustion can be the difference between a close call and a crisis. Here's what to watch for:

☀️ Pale, ashen or moist skin
☀️ Muscle cramps
☀️ Fatigue, weakness or exhaustion
☀️ Headache, dizziness or fainting
☀️ Nausea or vomiting
☀️ Rapid heart rate

Our people are our most valuable asset. Getting the job done right starts with getting everyone home safe.

Thanks to the National Safety Council for the important reminder this season.

Not every day on the job looks the same. 🦫

We're scanning a 10-mile stretch of Highway 281 for the Nebraska Department of Transportation using a combination of our mobile mapping system and aerial LiDAR unit. Using both gives us enough data overlap to accurately capture not only the highway surface, but also the features and right-of-way on either side of the corridor.

When working around bridges, the angles and structure can make it difficult to capture everything accurately, so we supplemented with traditional survey methods to make sure our data extraction team had a complete picture. Some things just need to be done the old-fashioned way!

We also stumbled upon a sizeable beaver dam just outside our work limits, so we flagged it for NDOT and made sure our work didn't disturb it. Because good surveying means paying attention to everything you find out there, not just what you were looking for.

Meet one of our summer interns, Brennen! 👷

Brennen is helping with our Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, designing site layouts in Civil 3D, helping with project applications and jumping in wherever the team needs extra support.

He is especially excited to see the full engineering process in action, from early concepts to construction in the field, and to learn how precise data and smart design decisions shape each project.

When he’s not on site, you can find him fishing, playing sports or spending time with friends. Welcome to the team, Brennen. We're glad to have you this summer!

Out in the field, ticks are not a minor nuisance — they’re a serious and growing health risk for anyone working outdoors. That’s why tick awareness training is a non-negotiable part of our work. 🌲

Recently, our field teams learned how to identify ticks, avoid high-risk areas, use proper PPE and perform thorough checks and safe removal after every shift. Prevention and early detection protect our team so we can focus on delivering precise, reliable data for our clients.

This is the standard of safety you can expect here: we take care of each other so we can take care of the project.

What a great few days at The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Missouri River Joint Engineering Training Symposium (JETS) here in Omaha! 🤝

Mat and Pat represented R.W. at the booth, where we had the chance to connect with government officials, engineers and contractors from across the region. We also got to show off some of the technology we use every day, including our Apache sonar boat, FreeFly Astro drone and Trimble LiDAR scanner.

Among the highlights was a keynote presentation from a retired firefighter who was trapped in the World Trade Center on 9/11. This was a powerful reminder of why the work we do in building safe and resilient communities matters so much.

Proud to support HDR on trail improvements along Thompson Creek in La Vista, near 72nd & Giles. 🌲

Steep terrain and busy roads called for a smarter approach. Aerial LiDAR allows us to capture detailed data in wooded areas without entering private yards or disrupting residents. At the 72nd Street crossing, mobile mapping kept our crew safe and out of traffic while the project kept moving.

The result: accurate, high-quality data that supports better design and a safer, more connected trail network.

We wrapped up our annual RW "Fore" the Long Weekend Golf Tournament. It's always a great time with the team outside of the office or field. ⛳️

Congratulations to our tournament winners: Mat, Shawn, Brian and Mike! Enjoy the bragging rights until next year. And a shoutout to Ryan for scoring closest to the pin!

Our team came together for a Pre-Memorial Day BBQ with good food and even better company. A big thanks to our grill master, Ed, for keeping everyone fed, rain or shine! 🍗

But we never forget why we celebrate: to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country. We're grateful for their sacrifice and the freedom it protects.

We hope you had a great Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

This is what bathymetric surveying looks like in the field. 🌊

From wide open water to narrow creek channels, our equipment captures high-resolution 3D data beneath the surface in real time. Fast, precise and built for the waterways we work with every day.

See it in action here:

R.W. is changing the mapping game again with the all new CH Nav Apache3 Pro, a tool being used to map below the surface of the water in lakes, ponds, streams...
