We spent an afternoon at Dotdash Meredith Park in Des Moines with our friends, neighbors and clients at Felsburg Holt & Ullevig. 🌳

FHU invited us to join them for a picnic to celebrate the completion of their first major project in Des Moines. Russell and Ben represented R.W. alongside clients from the City of Des Moines - Government and other industry partners.

The FHU team shares their Des Moines office with us, and we are grateful for their partnership as we continue to grow in Iowa!

The best investment we can make is in the next generation of engineers. 👷

This summer, our civil engineering interns have been getting a front-row seat to how projects come together. Connor and Omar have been passing down their industry knowledge firsthand, making sure every intern leaves with more than just resume experience.

That's how we do it. When you're here, you learn from the best.

This month we're celebrating some big milestones at R.W. 🎉

Dustin: 13 years
Shawn: 7 years
Andy: 5 years
Dan: 2 years

A combined 27 years of expertise and hard work. We're grateful to have all of them on the team.

And a huge shoutout to Andy, who, in his 5 years with R.W., went from Land Surveyor in Training to Professional Land Surveyor to Shareholder. His progression reflects the growth we’re proud to support! 👏

August 19th is National Aviation Day, and we'll take any excuse to talk about our drones. 🚁

Drones have changed how we collect data. What used to take days of traditional fieldwork can now be done in less time and with even more accuracy and detail.

Our drone program has become a core area of our work: volumetric analysis, orthomosaic imagery, 3D point cloud modeling, aerial inspections and more.

Beyond the work itself, our team stays active in shaping the policies and education that keep the industry moving forward.

Happy National Aviation Day to every pilot, engineer and innovator keeping things off the ground. ✈️

Our team is constantly asking: what if there's another way to use the tools we already have? That mindset is what drives our R&D team. 💭

We've been testing various scanners that can be used to scan the interior of manholes and inlets. This task traditionally relies on a surveying rod with hash marks and a fair amount of estimation. If it works, the scanner would capture significantly more data and eliminate a lot of human error in the process.

So far, it's a work in progress. But this is what innovation looks like. Not every idea works on the first try, and we're okay with that. Our willingness to try is what keeps us ahead.

Every quarter we hold a company-wide photo contest, a great honor in the R.W. office (and great for our social media, too)!

For Q2, Ryan, one of our survey technicians, took home the prize with this amazing shot and walked away with a gift card for R.W. merch.

Great eye, Ryan! 📸

R.W.'s own Dustin recently presented at a Southeast Nebraska Land Surveyors Association (SENLSA) meeting, spending the morning diving into all things drones. 🚁

He covered the drone program he has been building within Metropolitan Community College (Nebraska), including curriculum development and best practices for flying.

Beyond the presentation, Dustin also shared his experience working with Senator Bostar's office to help shape Nebraska's LB1020, a bill aimed at supporting public safety without creating unnecessary barriers for certified Part 107 pilots.

We're proud to have people like Dustin, who not only care about the work they do, but also the industry they work in.

Happy National CAD Day! 🖥️

Most people only see the roads and manholes they walk and drive over every day. What they don't see is the entire world of infrastructure running just beneath their feet.

Swipe to see two views of the same intersection:

The first is a 3D model showing the existing storm and sanitary systems in grey and black, alongside the newly proposed design in blue and cyan.

The second is the topographic plan view, the traditional overhead CAD drawing that maps out all existing utilities and features at ground level.

Our team is working to separate a combined storm and sanitary system into two. Most people never think about what's going on below their feet; they just know it works. We think it's worth showing.

At R.W., investing in the next generation of surveyors and engineers means giving interns real, hands-on responsibility in the field. This summer, Daniel has supported a range of projects. Here he's measuring the flow line of a culvert pipe along Highway 281, gaining real-world experience he'll carry forward.

Here's to interns like Daniel who are helping shape the future of our industry.
