September is here, and some of the best landscaping weather of the year is right around the corner.

Cooler days make it easier on new trees, shrubs, and perennials, while warm soil gives roots time to establish before winter arrives. It’s also a great season for refreshing landscape beds, adding privacy, tackling hardscape projects, and getting your property cleaned up before the cold settles in.

And then there’s the part we all enjoy: cooler evenings on the patio, the first fire of the season, and a backyard that becomes pretty hard to leave.

There’s still a lot of landscaping season ahead of us in Omaha. If you have a project you’d like to complete this fall, now is the time to get it on the schedule.

Don't put landscaping on the shelf just because September is around the corner.

🍂 Fall is an excellent time to add trees, shrubs, and many perennials to your landscape. Cooler temperatures reduce heat stress, soil remains warm enough for root development, and new plantings have time to begin establishing before winter.

It's also a great time to add some structure to areas that looked a little bare this summer, improve privacy, replace plants that didn't perform well, or rethink an entire landscape bed.

By the end of August, you've had an entire summer to see how your landscape is really working...

Maybe a tree has grown enough to create more shade than expected. Plants have filled in and changed the balance of a bed, heavy rains exposed a drainage problem, or you've realized the patio simply isn't big enough when everyone comes over.

Take a walk around your property this weekend and look at it with next year in mind.

Late summer is an excellent time to identify what you'd like to improve, and getting the design process started now gives you more options for fall projects and planning ahead for spring.

If you already know what you'd change, let's start there!

Fall may still be a few weeks away, but now is the time to get your fall landscape cleanup on the schedule. 🍂

A good fall cleanup does more than tidy things up before winter. It's an opportunity to prepare your landscape for the colder months and set it up for a healthier start next spring.

Depending on your property, the checklist may include:

• Cutting back appropriate perennials and ornamental grasses
• Cleaning leaves and debris from landscape beds
• Removing spent annuals
• Pruning shrubs and cleaning up overgrowth
• Freshening mulch and redefining bed edges
• Cleaning up around trees and plantings
• Removing dead or damaged plant material
• General landscape cleanup and preparation for winter

And remember, not everything needs to be cut back! Some perennials and ornamental grasses provide winter interest and valuable habitat, so knowing what to leave alone is part of the process.

Our fall schedule will fill quickly. If you'd rather spend those crisp autumn weekends enjoying your yard instead of cleaning it up, give Jay Moore Landscaping a call and get your property on the list.

Good morning, Omaha!

A little sunshine, a break from the rain, and everything outside seems pretty happy about it. 🌸🌺

After all the moisture we've had lately, landscapes around town are lush, green, and putting on quite a show. This Rose of Sharon caught the morning light just right, and we couldn't resist sharing it.

We're back in the dirt and ready for a great week... Hope yours is a good one!

Late summer is a great time to look around your property with fresh eyes.

Maybe the patio needs more room, or you've discovered you'd use the backyard more with some privacy. Perhaps a bare area needs trees and plantings, or you've spent another summer thinking about that pergola, water feature, fire pit, or retaining wall.

Fall is an excellent season for many landscape projects, and our schedule is taking shape now.

Bring us the wish list. We'll help you figure out what makes sense for the space, develop the design, and build something you'll be glad is waiting for you when spring rolls around again.

Those first cool fall evenings aren't far away.🍂

You know the kind of nights... when dinner moves outside, the fire pit gets lit, and nobody is in much of a hurry to head back indoors.

A comfortable patio, good seating, landscape lighting, a fire feature, and a little privacy can turn your backyard into the gathering place for family and friends well into the fall.

If you've spent this summer thinking about what your outdoor space is missing, this is your sign.

We've had plenty of rain lately, and landscapes across Omaha are responding. 🌿Everything is growing fast, plants are filling out, and the green has certainly returned.

All that water can also reveal things you may not notice during drier stretches.

- Standing water that hangs around too long
- Mulch washing out of beds
- Soil eroding along slopes
- Water moving toward the house instead of away from it
- Low areas that turn into a swamp every time a storm rolls through.

Those trouble spots are worth paying attention to.

Good landscape design has to perform as well as it looks. At Jay Moore Landscaping, we design with solutions in mind such as proper grading, drainage solutions, retaining walls, strategically placed plantings, and thoughtful hardscape design can help manage water while becoming part of a beautiful, cohesive landscape.

If this summer's rain has exposed a problem in your yard, we've got a solution.

A retaining wall can solve a problem and completely reshape a landscape at the same time while taming a difficult slope, helping manage erosion, create usable space, define planting beds, and turn elevation changes into an intentional part of the design.

And functional certainly doesn't have to mean boring.

Stone, block, boulders, curves, tiers, integrated steps and plantings all give us opportunities to build something that belongs in the landscape and adds character to the property.

Sometimes the feature doing the hardest work can also be one of the best-looking parts of the yard.
