🌤️ Mild Winter = Perfect Timing for Tree Care 🌳
Omaha, NE

We’ve had a pretty mild winter so far here in Omaha, and that trend looks to continue through February and into March. Expect a mix of cooler days with plenty of mild stretches, fewer deep-freeze periods, and a gradual warm-up as spring approaches. Snow is still possible, but this kind of weather creates an ideal window for outdoor maintenance and planning (Kristy is working on planning our extended garden)!

That’s exactly why this was a great time for a recent trim-up at Deborah’s house, where we cleaned up several trees ahead of spring growth. Late winter is one of the best times to address:

✔️ Dead or damaged limbs
✔️ Overgrowth and clearance issues
✔️ Structural improvements that reduce storm and wind risk

✂️ Why We Don’t Cut Branches Flush to the Tree

You may notice that we never cut branches flush to the trunk or main limb—and that’s intentional. Trees have a natural branch collar, the slightly raised area where the limb meets the tree. Preserving that collar:
• Allows the tree to seal the cut properly
• Reduces the risk of rot and disease
• Promotes healthier, stronger regrowth

Flush cuts may look cleaner, but they actually damage the tree’s natural defenses and can lead to long-term problems.

If you’re thinking about tree trimming, cleanup, or getting your yard ready for spring, this mild late-winter weather is the perfect time to do it the right way.

As we wrap up 2025 and finally catch our breath after the holidays, we’ve been doing a lot of reflecting.

This past year wouldn’t have been possible without our customers, family, and friends who chose to invest in us — not just with projects, but with trust, referrals, encouragement, and patience as we continued to grow. Every call, every conversation, every “hey, can you take a look at this?” mattered more than you probably realize.

We’re incredibly thankful for the people who welcomed us onto their properties, shared their stories, and let us be part of their plans — big and small. You’re the reason we get to do what we do.

As we look ahead to 2026, the holidays are behind us and it’s usually right about now that people start looking around and thinking, what’s next for our outdoor space? If you’re kicking around ideas, wondering what’s realistic, or just trying to get a rough sense of cost so you can plan and shop around, we’re always happy to talk it through. Sometimes a quick conversation helps bring clarity long before any work starts.

From our family to yours — thank you for an incredible year. We’re looking forward to what’s next.

Christmas, community, and gratitude. 🎄🤝❤️

As we wrap up December, we’re feeling incredibly grateful for the way this year came together — both in work and in life ❄️❤️.

We had the chance to reconnect with our November Property SOS cleanup for Rebecca 🤝🛠️ and fully wrap up that volunteer project 🌱. We also completed several late-season leaf cleanups 🍂🍁, including one for Rosemary 💛. This will be her family’s first Christmas without her husband 🎄🕊️, and she and her family have been very much in our thoughts 🙏.

We also spent more time out at Emma’s acreage 🚜🌾, loading old metal siding for recycling ♻️🪵 from her barn project and continuing cleanup work across her property 🌳🧹 — the kind of hands-on, meaningful work we truly enjoy 💪.

As a family, we’re deeply thankful as we close out the year surrounded by time together and moments that matter 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨. Our business — and our hearts — have grown in 2025 thanks to the trust, kindness, and support of so many great people along the way 🌿🤍.

Whether you celebrate Christmas 🎄 or another holiday ✨ this season, we wish you a peaceful close to 2025 🕯️ and look forward to planning your spring projects in the new year!

Cold, Windy, and Still a Good Day to Get Things Done 🌬️🛠️

We spent some time out at Emma’s acreage last Sunday knocking out a few final touches so they could wrap up outdoor projects before moving in and before any more weather rolls through.

It was chilly and windy, but a good day to take care of the details — moving branches to the pile, digging out the edge of an outbuilding so new metal siding can go up clean, and shifting some rock where the old deck used to be to keep things tidier getting in and out until the new deck is built.

We also got a good test run with the new thermal bibs. Happy to report they passed with flying colors and kept us warm enough to stay focused on the work.

Sometimes it’s not the big stuff — it’s the finishing touches that make the next phase easier.

Concrete, Mud, and Christmas Tunes — Not a Bad Way to Spend a Day 🎄🚧

Our friends over at Elm Home Services reached out for help with a field of broken concrete left over from an addition in Blair. And when we say “field,” we mean a lot of concrete that needed to go.

It was cold, muddy, and just plain messy out there, but we settled in and got the work done. Six tons later, the area was cleared and looking a whole lot better.

And the flurries? Honestly, they put us in the Christmas spirit. There’s something about working in light snow with Christmas music playing that hits just right this time of year.

Outdoor spaces matter to us. Big jobs, small cleanups, teaming up with other local companies — it all matters. Clearing spaces like this helps people move forward with whatever comes next on their property.

We’ve Been Busy — Time to Share Our November SOS Project ❤️🌿

We were slammed right up until Thanksgiving, but it’s finally time to show you our November J.W. Metz SOS project — and this one was a bigger one, so we got some help!

We had a small crew of friends and family join us to cut, clear, and remove a whole lot of overgrowth. Just look at the mess we walked into. With everyone pitching in, we were able to:

• clear the entire fence line of volunteer growth
• clean up the leaves
• mow
• w**d eat
• trim trees and bushes
• remove an old stump
• and haul off a jumbo pile of fallen branches and sticks
• take out vines growing up the garage

What a difference it made.

This month’s recommendation came from a neighbor who passes by regularly and took the time to stop, ask questions, and find out what was going on — a follower of our page: Kotchin felt something wasn’t quite right and wanted to help. And she was right.

The homeowner is a full-time caregiver for her 86-year-old mom, while her husband, in his mid-70s, still works full time.

This is exactly why our SOS program exists: to step in where we can for seniors and individuals whose circumstances make outdoor upkeep nearly impossible. Sometimes a little help goes a long way. ❤️

❄️ Make sure your provider is insured.

Snow removal may look simple, but all it takes is one rock thrown from a chute to crack a window, dent a vehicle, or damage your property in seconds.

That “cheap” driveway clearing can quickly become an expensive problem if the person doing the work isn’t covered. Hire whoever you trust — just make sure you’re protected.

Stay warm and stay safe today!

The 3 Amigos Didn’t Stand a Chance 🌳💥

Paul and Judy recently had us out to grind out some stumps after they took down three trees on their acreage. And you might be thinking: “Why not just burn them or yank them out with equipment?”

Simple answer: buried power lines.
When you’ve got utilities running underground, grinding is the safest way to go.

So we got to work on the “3 Amigos”:
• a black walnut,
• a jumbo mystery tree, and
• one extremely rotten little stump that tapped out early.

A couple hours with the big grinder and all three were history — cleared out safely and without risking those buried lines.

Little by little, these kinds of projects make a property easier to live with and look at. If you ever run into something like this, you know where to find us.

Howdy Prairie Lane Neighbors,

I’m Jason Metz, owner of J.W. Metz Co. You’ve probably seen me around with the truck, trailer, and equipment.

With winter weather on the way, I just want to help where I can. If you see a branch down and blocking a road anywhere in the Prairie Lane neighborhood, I will move it out of the way at no cost!

I’m more than happy to come by with my mini track loader and saws to clear it to the side so everyone—especially emergency vehicles—can get through safely here in Prairie Lane.

From over here on 112th St, your neighbor,
