One novelty project on Park Street in Allentown: a front landscape was installed using historic Jamestown Block bricks and reclaimed Medina Sandstone, originally used as sidewalk slabs for Buffalo's streets; Pennsylvania Bluestone was used for the freestanding wall, as well. Allentown Landscape always encourages those with small yards in urban neighborhoods to let go of the lawn! Give away that lawnmower!

A one-of-a-kind project completed by Allentown Landscape was a reclaimed brick patio/walkway and landscape at a home on the corner of Cleveland and Tudor Place, across the street from Nardin Academy, in the Elmwood Village. Consisting of 100% reclaimed material, the patio/walkway was constructed with 9 pallets of Jamestown Block Classic street pavers (130+ years old) and granite cobblestone ballister weights (500+ years old - yes, that's right - far older than the United States of America). The ballister weights had been used as weights on ships crossing the Atlantic Ocean centuries ago.

In order to help one identify specific areas within the hardscape (walkway, patio, fire pit, ramp to porch, etc.) a combination of complex patterns were used, requiring several days of measurements and cuts undoubtedly making this project a one-of-a-kind. The landscape, on the other hand, had a bit of an Asian theme, utilizing miniature or slow-growing shrubs as well as a combination of five different Japanese Maple trees - among other untraditional conifer and deciduous trees.

Projects like this are what separates Allentown Landscape from your standard landscaping company... As our slogan says: "Historic Restoration, Artistic Innovation."

On Lafayette Avenue in Buffalo’s Elmwood Village, Allentown Landscape crafted a complete front yard makeover. Out with the old and in with the new!

Though Allentown Landscape specializes in projects utilizing historic material, we can tackle any type of job. In this case, some natural stone (Tumbled Pennsylvania Bluestone, both Yellow and Brown River Rock, and Blue Stone) and repurposed brown street pavers were used, along with select shrubs well-fit for urban environments.

On Summit Avenue in Buffao's Parkside neighborhood, kitty-corner to Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House, Allentown Landscape designed and installed a 12'x20' patio built with 100% reclaimed brick and stone: 120+ year old Jamestown Block bricks, and 130+ year old Medina stone slabs, previously used as sidewalk stone in the city of Buffalo. (Scroll through all of the photos to see before, during, and after shots of this wonderfully, custom-designed project).

...and just a few additional pictures of when Allentown Landscape first started to put the John Cam Malt House's driveway back together - from scratch... measurements were made to position the driveway exactly where it had been before, holding true to the guidelines of historic preservation in the city of Buffalo.

Stage Two: The rebirth of the John Cam Malt House's 125-year-old cobblestone driveway (356 Hertel Avenue). Approx. 2500 cobblestone were reset exactly where the original driveway had been built in 1901. Though reduced in size due to the loss of a significant number of damaged pieces, a portion of Buffalo's history was saved by Allentown Landscape.

Allentown Landscape was hired by both LeChase Construction and LoFaso Construction to conduct a two-stage project at 356 Hertel Avenue: The John Kam Malting Co. Building. Stage One was the removal of the 125-year-old cobblestone driveway (hidden beneath blacktop for decades). After the blacktop was removed, deconstruction began. Row by row, each piece of cobblestone was removed, cleaned, inspected, and assessed for its salvagability. In the end, 30+ pallets of cobblestone (approx. 3500) were saved and set aside, ready for Stage Two: installation.
