Heard something odd from your AC lately? Here’s what the noises usually mean.

Squealing: usually a worn motor bearing or belt.
Banging or clanking: something loose or broken in the blower or outdoor unit.
Hissing: a possible refrigerant or duct leak.
Buzzing: often an electrical issue.

Fire Prevention Week isn’t just about heaters — especially here in Florida, where our AC systems work most of the year.

Take a few minutes to check around your outdoor unit. Keep leaves, grass clippings, overgrown landscaping and other debris away from the equipment so it has proper airflow and your electrical components remain accessible.

While you’re outside, take a look at the disconnect and wiring too. If you notice damaged wires, signs of overheating, unusual noises or anything that doesn’t look right, have it checked by a professional.
