This April, American Society of Landscape Architects challenged all of us to show what Landscape Architecture in Action really looks like, not just in concept, but in the real world.  As the month wraps, one thing is clear: the work that lasts is the work that performs. In hospitality, that means spaces that don’t just photograph well on opening day, but continue to drive guest experience, revenue, and flexibility over time.

At Zemi Beach Resort & Spa, the landscape wasn’t treated as an afterthought, it shaped the entire guest journey. Arrival, circulation, pool environments, and outdoor amenities were all designed to deliver immediate impact while quietly setting up the resort for long-term evolution.

That’s where the industry is heading, less about static design, more about systems that adapt, perform, and grow.

Day Three of the Office Winter Games slid into action with one of the most unconventional events yet: Chair Curling. Inspired by the golden rule of theme park safety "keep all hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the vehicle" our teams competitors strapped in and pushed off for a surprisingly intense showdown.

The objective was simple in theory but ruthless in ex*****on: land your “rock” in the house for maximum points while strategically knocking rival teams out of scoring position — all without colliding with course obstacles. Precision, timing, and just the right amount of controlled chaos defined the matchups.

And in case you’re wondering — despite the fierce competition — no chairs were harmed in the making of this event.

Day Two of the Office Winter Games brought the heat to the ice with Knuckle Puck.

The Snow Drifts stayed cool and strategic, Blade Angels came out aggressive with bold shots, and Crystalia delivered their signature precision. Trick shots flew, risks paid off (and sometimes didn’t), and the leaderboard tightened fast.

It was a fierce showdown from start to finish.

Good evening from the arena floor, where the inaugural event of the PBD Office Winter Games kicked off in dramatic fashion.

Three powerhouse teams entered the competition with pride and icy determination:

The Snow Drifts – cool, calculated, and relentless.

Blade Angels – fierce, fast, and technically sharp.

Crystalia – elegant under pressure with a reputation for precision.

Yesterday’s headline event, “Melting Ice,” tested strategy, speed, and sheer willpower as teams raced to free binder clips frozen inside solid blocks of ice. It wasn’t just about brute force, this was science, teamwork, and controlled chaos wrapped into one frozen battlefield.

Water splashed. Ice cracked. Tensions rose.

The Snow Drifts relied on methodical melting tactics.
Blade Angels went aggressive, attacking from all sides.
Crystalia brought finesse, applying just enough heat to stay efficient without losing control.

What began as a simple thaw turned into a high-stakes showdown that had spectators leaning in and competitors scrambling for every last clip. Day One delivered drama, speed, and an early glimpse of who might have the endurance to go the distance.

The Winter Games are officially underway!

At Perry Becker Design, we view experiential design as a development discipline, not a decorative layer. The most successful hospitality projects are shaped by experience from the outset—aligning land, brand, operations, and guest journey before form is fixed.

As this article underscores, experience-led thinking is increasingly what differentiates enduring destinations from interchangeable ones.

When experience leads planning, hospitality environments perform better financially, resonate more deeply with guests, and evolve with purpose over time.

Last year our team brought the holiday cheer to the fencing studio. This year, we traded in swords for skates and took the celebration to the ice — a great chance to connect and close out the year together.

We also continued our tradition of supporting Toys for Tots, collecting more donations than our tree could hold and filling the office with holiday generosity.

As we head into the holidays, we’re grateful for the time to be with loved ones, reflect, and recharge — and we’re heading into the new year energized, with bigger and better things ahead.
