Winnebago County Solid Waste

Winnebago County Solid Waste We provide cost-efficient solid waste and recyclable material management services for our community.

In 2001, Brown, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties joined forces to form the Tri-County Regional Partnership. This cooperative agreement paved the way for development of a regional recycling system that would serve municipalities in all three counties. In 2008, the agreement was amended to include the planning, construction, and operation of a new single-stream recycling facility, located in Applet

on and operated by Outagamie County. The operation of the Tri-County Recycling Facility began in July of 2009 and today continues to serve residents of Northeast Wisconsin, providing cost-efficient sorting and marketing of recyclable materials that are banned from landfill disposal.

Need a quick refresher on what belongs in your recycling cart? We've got you covered! ♻️

Our Tri-County Recycling Guide is one of the most popular resources we offer—and judging by last Saturday's Farmers Market, people agree! We brought along a stack of guides for visitors to take home, and every single copy was gone before the market ended.

Whether you're new to recycling or just need a handy reminder, this guide makes it easy to know what goes in the cart, what stays out, and why we really hate the "Ugly 8" contaminants.

Feel free to share this post with friends, family, neighbors, or anyone who could use a recycling refresher. Together, we can help everyone Recycle Right! 💚

Plastic plant pots and trays are 𝗻𝗼𝘁 curbside recyclable because:
👉They are made from low-grade plastics or mixed resins making them less desirable in recycling markets.
👉They are mostly black which optical sorters can’t detect properly because the dark pigment absorbs light instead of reflecting it.
👉Contamination. They often have dirt, pesticides, or fertilizer residues.

Once empty, your options include:
►Reusing them for plant propagation
►Taking them to a Lowes garden center or other plant retailer (call ahead) for drop-off and reuse
►Disposing of them in the trash

🌱Happy National Learn About Composting Day! 🌱

Composting at home is an easy way to reduce waste, create nutrient-rich soil, and help keep valuable food scraps and yard materials out of the landfill. Even small steps — like composting fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, leaves, and grass clippings — can make a big difference for the environment. ♻️🌎
