They cost about the same as work boots anyway 😂

There’s always something on the mind.

A little look into the process of replacing these windows.

No two houses are exactly alike, and that’s part of what keeps this work interesting.

Even after years in the trade, there’s always something new to come across.

Taking out an old window is pretty straightforward. It’s what comes afterward that deserves more attention.

How you prepare the opening, what materials you choose, and how you finish the exterior all play a role in how well that window performs over time.

There isn’t just one product or method for every situation. It’s about understanding what you’re working with and choosing what makes sense for the job.

For now, here’s a look at the removal process.

Over the years I’ve learned to make simple jigs like this to make the job easier. I have miter saws, siding tables and plenty of tools to cut soffit, but this is still one of the best ways I’ve found to do it.

It’s lightweight, quick to set up, and keeps production moving without hauling out more equipment than we need.

Yeah, it’s not the prettiest setup—but it works. And when you’re doing this every day, efficiency matters.

ROOFERS AREN’T SIDERS.

I’ll probably stir up the comments with this one… 😅

Respect to the roofers, but siding is its own trade.

If you’ve ever installed a full siding job, you know exactly what I mean.

One jig. Hundreds of cuts.

Built this siding and soffit cutting jig for about $50 using a 2x12, a few scraps, aluminum guides, and some GRKs.

Nothing fancy. The goal is simple: make repeatable cuts, speed up production, and keep everything consistent. When you’re making the same cut over and over, a jig is worth the time to build.

What shop-built tool saves you the most time?

Anybody else get to the gym and immediately start thinking about everything they need to do?

Invoices.
Material orders.
Change orders.
Schedules.
That one thing you forgot yesterday.

The workout is the easy part.
