Drop a like on this fat 7-inch live-edge Ashlar Slate porch! We ran the pattern on a 45-degree angle to give it that extra pop. This stamp never gets old, especially for all you slate lovers.

This one was for my big brother. After all the hours he’s spent helping me over the years, I was glad to give something back. Now he has another massive porch overlooking his pool, with plenty more to come!

This week we’re pouring a 3,000-square-foot pool deck, adding stone veneer to the block work, and bringing this entire backyard to life. Projects like this remind me I could stay busy doing what I love for the rest of my life.

Another beautiful decorative concrete patio and sidewalk wrapped up with another very happy homeowner!

We stamped this sandstone-colored concrete with a Roman Slate pattern and accented the borders and compass design with a rich Kona Brown stain. Those custom finishing touches really make this project stand out.

To top it all off, we built a beautiful fire pit that’s perfect for relaxing evenings, roasting s’mores, and making memories with family and friends.

Anyone else notice that the new L1 cement just isn’t the same as the old stuff?

Over the years, we’ve worked with just about every mix out there, and the older L1 products seemed to have better consistency, workability, and finish quality. The newer material can still get the job done, but it often takes more effort and attention to achieve the same results we used to get with ease.

As contractors, we adapt and make it work, but it’s hard not to appreciate the products that built their reputation on reliability and performance. Sometimes the old-school materials really were better.

What’s your experience? Have you noticed a difference in the newer L1 cement products?
