We service some customers that believe that the air filter in their heating & cooling system will help to rid their house of dust. The furnace blower and its' air filter are not designed to help keep your house clean. It certainly will never pick up dust off of your coffee table and circulate that dust through the air filter. The ONLY job for the air filter is to protect and keep clean the furnace and evaporator coil, that usually sets on top of the furnace. It is only for protecting the system. We don't ever recommend using an air filter with a "MERV" rating above 8. MERV is an efficiency rating on air filters. Any filter with a rating over 8 is too restrictive for airflow through your furnace. 3M and others are very good at marketing higher MERV rated filters, but they are not good, in my opinion, for your heating and cooling system. Air filters are way cheaper than a service call. Keep them changed regularly.

All air filters have an efficiency number printed on them. The "MERV" number is used for comparing one filter to another and shows how much filtering material is used in the filter. We very strongly recommend using an air filter with a MERV rating number of 8. MERV ratings higher than 8 are more restrictive to airflow through a system and can cause problems in both heating & cooling modes. The higher MERV number filter can, and usually does, cause a furnace to operate at too high of temperature and can cause an A/C system to freeze up. There a lot of filters out there that you can buy but a MERV 8 filter, properly maintained, will do the best job of keeping your heating & cooling system clean. And it will help your system last longer too.

We're proud to have built a dependable community minded business over the last 38 years. And doing so selling furnaces and air conditioners, none of which have had popular or familiar brand names. Started out with Bryant, then Whirlpool, then Tempstar, then Arcoaire and now Comfortmaker. This tells me that our customers aren't as concerned about a brand name as they are in knowing they can trust us to give them the quality installation and post installation service they deserve. Does anybody know of anybody that is wanting to work. Looking for help for residential installation of furnaces, A/C units, duct work, gas piping, general wiring knowledge a plus. We need one experienced person or at the minimum, a very dependable; eager to learn; dependable; mostly intelligent - as in can read a tape measure; dependable; can work with power tools without losing a finger; has own transportation and clean driving record; no criminal record; can pass a drug test; dependable; and did I say dependable.
