Time to get ready for winter. Disconnect hoses from outside water hydrants. Make sure crawlspace access holes are closed. When the temperatures drop, turn your heat on at least 65 degrees or warmer. You may not be there, but your house still needs heat. If you're going to be out of town, have someone checking your house. Keep tabs on the weather and when temperatures are going to drop, make sure you're ready. Things you can do to be proactive, open cabinet doors under sinks, turn a sink on to a pencil stream (a stream about the size of pencil lead), pipes are less likely to freeze with water movement in them, be sure to turn on the hot and cold. If you discover you have frozen pipes, contact someone asap to get it thawed. Sometimes you can get it thawed before damage is done, or at least keep damage to a minimum. With winter right around the corner, please stay safe and warm.
