Our company restores decorative concrete street lighting pole. This process eliminates companies from purchasing new poles to replace old poles.
Most concrete street lighting post are spun cast poles. The concrete mix is poured into a mold and rebar is assembled in the mold. The rebar is stretched and then button each end until the cement is poured and then the mold is put on a spinner and spins the mold at about 3500 rpm until all the excess water is squeezed out and cement and rock are compressed. The mold is put into a curing oven for 4 hrs and after the curing is complete the mold is open and the rebar button are cut to release the tenson it strengthens the pole.
The biggest enemy of these poles is the elements. Like anything that is outside the weather takes a toll on these poles over the years. As temperature changes the constant expansion of the concrete allows the elements to get inside the pole and over a period of years the moisture can pe*****te the rebar and cause it to loose its strength and develop cracks, and needs replacing.
The UV rays from the sun breaks down the coating that starts this process. Over a period of time iron spots will develop and usually is the first sign on the coating breaking down.
Poles over ten years old need to be a attended to. That is the time to start the refurbishing process.
