JKL LAND SURVEYING IS CELEBRATING THIRTY YEARS IN BUSINESS

Thirty years ago this month, I quit my secure surveying job and started my own business called JKL Land Surveying. My little girls were 8, 4 and 2 years old. Now we have 7 grandchildren, the oldest getting married this summer. What a ride it has been.

Being mostly unknown in the community, the business was built from the ground up. The first years were tough as I worked to get the word out and the business going. In the early years I had to take on part time work during the slow winter months. Do you remember the snow tubing hill in Oxford? Yeah, I worked there for three winters, and one at Lost Valley on the ski lifts.

Overtime, the community started to gain confidence and trust in JKL Land Surveying’s ability to provide expert and quality land use consulting services. We have gained a reputation as expert boundary surveyors that solved complex boundary issues. Now, after 3 decades, JKL Land Surveying has provided the surrounding communities of Androscoggin, Oxford, Kennebec and Cumberland Counties thousands of quality surveys.

I cannot take all of the credit though. If not for the support of my wonderful wife and best friend Kathy, we would not have made it. While I was working long hours trying to get a project out the door, she was taking care of the three little girls, working full time, and even getting her business degree. Kathy, thank you for being here for me through the years, you are amazing and I am blessed that you have been a part of my life for over forty years.

How do I not mention the hundreds of clients that have trusted JKL Land Surveying to provide quality surveys that were tailored specifically to their objectives. It is because of their trust and faith in us that we became a successful business. Our reputation for expert quality, approachability and honesty came from word of mouth of those we have done work for in the past, and we have reveled that as our greatest achievement. We can not express enough appreciation to all.

Our employees over the years have been exceptional, I take pride that even the inexperienced ones becoming valuable assets to the company. They learned well and put up a lot from my expectations of detail and quality. You learned early that I am not the best people manager, yet you accepted me as your mentor in this trade. At least for a while! For those who have worked here and to those who still do, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your patience and learning to figure me out.

I also want to point to the sky and lift my head, much like the professional athletes do when they make a miraculous play, giving thanks to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. God has blessed my life more than I deserve, and that, to me is a miracle. I need not say more.

Thank you all again for your past and future patronage. JKL Land Surveying is looking forward to many years yet to come. Please stop in and say hi.

Here's an old wooden post and a stone pile for a property corner. I bet it's been there a while. At first we just found the stones, but upon further investigation Keith found the post that was rotted and buried. -NR

We made the best of an interesting week. Drove to one job to find power lines down all around where we needed to work so we decided it was in our best interest not to continue. Snapped this shot later in the day though. Love this job! -NR

just "What we do"

When we are out and about surveying sometimes we come across hazards in the forest or in the woods that we can take care of in a responsible way, in West Minot we found this can of industrial cleaner only 75' from a brook so we took it home, Plums town has a "free hazard turn in day" where he can get rid of this.
