Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer. ☀️🍂

As we soak up the last of the warm days and begin the transition into fall, take a moment to enjoy the beauty all around us in the place we’re lucky to call home.

By September, a landscape has been through months of heat, changing moisture levels, insect activity and other environmental pressures.

Late-season monitoring provides an opportunity to look at how trees and plants have responded and identify areas that may need attention before dormancy.

Not every sign of stress calls for the same response. Understanding what is happening in the landscape helps guide treatment decisions based on the conditions actually present.

That ongoing process of monitoring and responding helps support plant health from one season to the next.

A summer well spent! 🌿💪 Today was Elder’s last day with us before heading back to school to begin his senior year of high school. 🎓

We were lucky to have him as part of the team this summer and truly appreciated all of his hard work. Now it’s time to trade in the work boots for textbooks! 📚

Water issues usually become obvious after heavy rain. Areas that hold water, shift over time, or drain improperly can create long-term problems for both landscapes and nearby structures if they aren’t addressed correctly beneath the surface.

Drainage work is one of the less visible parts of landscape construction, but it plays a major role in protecting the health, stability and usability of a property over time. Proper grading and water management help move water where it needs to go before it becomes a bigger issue.

We loved welcoming students from SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech to our facility for a behind-the-scenes look at the tree care industry. From learning about our company and Plant Health Care program to getting an up-close look at one of our IPM spray rigs, the morning was packed with hands-on demonstrations and real-world experience.

And yes...there was a chainsaw demonstration. Nothing drives home the importance of safety quite like seeing chainsaw chaps do exactly what they’re designed to do.

Seeing the next generation so engaged and passionate about trees, science and protecting our environment gives us a lot to be excited about.

The future of arboriculture is in good hands! 💚🌳

Our Plant Health Care technicians are in the field performing an Emerald Ash Borer injection - a targeted treatment that delivers protection directly into an Ash tree’s vascular system.

Think of it as precision medicine for trees. By moving the treatment through the tree’s xylem, we’re able to protect it from one of the most destructive invasive insects in North America.

Plant science is pretty cool when you get to save trees for a living. 🧪

Late summer is often when insect activity becomes harder to ignore. By August, trees and shrubs have already spent months dealing with heat, dry conditions and environmental stress, which can make feeding damage more visible across the landscape.

Discoloration, thinning foliage, curled leaves and weakened growth are all signs that plants may be struggling to keep up with continued insect pressure during the hottest stretch of the season.

Targeted plant health treatments help manage activity early, support recovery and reduce additional stress before damage becomes more widespread heading into fall. Ongoing monitoring throughout the season helps catch issues before long-term decline sets in.
