This post has been very long awaited. (so bear with me, its a long one but a good one)
Several months ago, my daughter Halle came to me and offered for her and Cedar to give my bedroom a facelift. She gently (okay… honestly 😅) pointed out that my room was not exactly peaceful. It had become the official dump station for everyone’s stuff—Daniel’s treasures (DeWalt tools, batteries, camera bags, bins on bins), piles of laundry, five gallon buckets of stored food hidden in windowsills, and anything else anyone needed a place to stash.
She had a point.
Then she said something that really stuck with me. She reminded me that I spend more time in my bedroom than almost anywhere else—working from my chair, answering emails, Facebook messages, scheduling sessions, editing photos, and handling the thousand little things that keep our life and businesses running. She felt I needed a peaceful space to do all of that. And after being married 28 years, she said it might be nice if my room felt like a beautiful retreat instead of a storage unit.
So… the project began.
Now, if you know Halle and Cedar, you know they have very high standards and very expensive taste 😂—but everything they touch is done extremely well. I assumed we were talking paint and a few decorative touches. I was very wrong.
First big announcement: the bed had to go. WHAT?! I had just gotten that bed a couple years ago and thought a gray wooden bed went with everything. Apparently… it did not go with the vision.
Next hurdle: Daniel’s treasures. Charged camera batteries are important when photography is your livelihood, and those books he wasn’t about to part with? They’d been living in bins for years because, well… batteries took priority.
Against Daniel’s will 😆 we handed the project over completely and moved into the guest room for several weeks. They roped Josiah into the project, and he built us the most gorgeous custom-made bed. Then they recruited the other guys in the house, and it officially became a full family operation.
I’m happy to say the final touches are done—and this room is far better than anything I would have ever planned or imagined. It truly feels like a dream. I honestly never want to leave it.
We have big plans to start filming our "Raising Adults" podcast right here. We’ve already have had so many good, meaningful talks with church friends in this room. And one of my favorite things in the world is reading with my children on this bed.
I am one happy mama.
I feel incredibly spoiled and deeply loved.
If you’re thinking about pouring money into a room in your house—take advice from a seasoned mama...don’t remodel your kids’ room. Give YOUR bedroom a facelift. You won’t regret it.
Better yet… call my sons-in-law:
• Cedar with Cedar Works LLC
• Vision with Vision Builds
Call Josiah with Josiah Crevier Furnishings to build your furniture, and call Asher or Levi to help with any part of the project. And finally, call my girls to design, decorate and staged any room of your house, they are amazing!!
And a big shoutout to Daniel for finishing the cabinet drawers on his side of the room 👏
Wow. Wow. Wow. I am beyond grateful for the talent in this family.
Enjoy a little sneak peek into my new bedroom 🤍
