Florida homeowners, don't let these unusual cold snaps turn into a plumbing nightmare! Our homes aren't always built for the "Arctic" weather weโve been seeing lately. Here are my top handyman tips to keep your pipes safe at night throughout this cold week
โข ๐ง Let it Drip: A slow, steady drip (about the width of a matchstick) from your faucets helps relieve pressure and keeps water moving. Focus on the faucet furthest from your main water line.
โข ๐ช Open the Cabinets: Open your kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to let warm indoor air circulate around the pipes.
โข ๐งค Wrap the Exposed Stuff: If you have exposed pipes in the garage, attic, or outside, wrap them! Foam pipe sleeves are best, but in a pinch, you can use old towels or pool noodles secured with duct tape.
โข ๐ฟ Outdoor Prep: Disconnect garden hoses and cover your outdoor spigots with insulated covers or a thick cloth wrapped in a plastic bag.
โข ๐ Garage Doors Closed: Keep garage doors shut to protect any water lines running through that unheated space.
Pro Tip: Know where your main water shut-off valve is before an emergency happens!
Stay warm, Florida! If you need help winterizing your home give me a call. I'm here to help.
