Everyday, I give thanks to all of our military service, men and women. I'm sharing a piece of history that means the world to me. My grandfather, Claude Petty Smith, was an aircraft mechanic and pilot during World War II. In the fall of 1942, he served on anti-submarine patrol with the Civil Air Patrol, a lesser-known but crucial part of our nation's defense. I recently came across a certificate he received in 1943, a testament to his dedication and bravery. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him and the legacy he left behind. Proud to be his grandson.
