This is a good example of why under-sink electrical can get messy fast.

The homeowner had tried to wire the garbage disposal, switch, and dishwasher, but the setup had open splices, exposed wiring, missing connectors, and flexible conduit that was not properly secured.

We corrected the disposal wiring, installed the proper connectors, cleaned up the switch wiring, and added a GFCI receptacle for the dishwasher so it has the protection and disconnecting means it needs. (1st picture)

There are some small electrical projects homeowners can handle. Under a kitchen sink, with a dishwasher, disposal, switch wiring, water lines, and metal boxes involved, it is usually better to slow down and get it corrected properly.

A lot of older homes still have laundry room outlets that were perfectly normal when the house was built, but do not match today’s GFCI protection requirements.

For this East Lake / 34685 homeowner, we replaced the existing washer outlet with a new GFCI receptacle as a safety upgrade.

Since the 2014 NEC, laundry areas in dwelling units have required GFCI protection. It’s a simple upgrade, but it matters in areas with washers, water lines, utility sinks, garages, and moisture nearby.

Small electrical updates like this are often worth doing when you are already working around older laundry, garage, or utility room wiring.

This garage light was not just an old fixture that needed replacing.

Once it came off, there was no proper electrical box behind it, and the wiring had been crushed against the wood. That is not how an exterior light should be left, especially outside where weather and movement are always factors.

We corrected the wiring setup, added a proper box, mounted the new motion security light, set the controls, and tested the motion sensor before wrapping up.

Small detail, but it matters. A security light should be mounted properly, wired safely, and tested so the homeowner knows it works.

Three bathrooms in this Lansbrook home got upgraded with new Panasonic WhisperQuiet bath fans.

One bathroom had an older fan/light replaced, one shower recessed light was changed over to a new bath fan, and another shower area had a new fan added where there wasn’t one before.

We protected the bathrooms with plastic and drop cloths, snaked new wiring where needed, separated fan and light controls, and installed new attic ducting so the fans vent properly outside.

The quietness of these Panasonic fans is a big reason I like using them. They are a major upgrade from a lot of older builder-grade bath fans, and proper ducting is just as important as the fan itself.

Good bathroom ventilation matters in Florida.

This floor outlet became a safety concern after the carpet was removed.

Once the flooring changed, the old box was sitting too high and the cover was broken and loose. With a toddler in the home, that needed to be corrected.

We cut the box down to the proper height, installed a new adapter, sealed around the opening, added a tamper-resistant receptacle, and finished it with a clean paintable floor cover.

The homeowner had considered removing the outlet completely, but this area is still considered required receptacle wall space because of the railing. Under the 2020 NEC, fixed railings can count as wall space for receptacle spacing.

Much safer, cleaner looking, and still code-conscious.

Camera and doorbell upgrade completed in Westchase / 33626.

This one included a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, a new properly rated doorbell transformer, a front garage spotlight camera installed with a hardwired kit, and a rear lanai camera with a new ceiling outlet for cleaner power.

We ran the needed wiring through the attic, mounted the cameras, tested everything, and helped get the system set up in the app before leaving.

Good camera placement and proper power make a big difference in how useful these systems are day to day.

As we approach the unofficial start of summer with the holiday weekend, family visiting, and pools getting used more, this is a good pool safety reminder for Florida homeowners.

Under the code that FL is currently following - NEC 680.21(C), replacement pool pump motors require GFCI protection.

This is one of those code rules I consider real safety, not just paperwork.

Pool equipment is outside, near water, exposed to weather, and often handled by homeowners, pool techs, and kids. Proper GFCI protection, grounding, and bonding matter.

A simple way to identify GFCI protection is to look for a breaker with a “test” button on the pool pump breaker, or sometimes on the breaker feeding the pool panel. If it is a plug-in pool pump setup, it should be plugged into a working GFCI-protected weather-resistant outlet with a proper in-use “bubble” cover.

A lot of older pool equipment was installed before this requirement, so it is worth checking when a pump motor or pool panel is being replaced.

When SafeCircuit works on pool motors, pool panels, or pool equipment wiring, we check the grounding/bonding and install the correct GFCI protection where required.

Some code rules may feel minor. This one does not.

This East Lake homeowner had a new pool pump installed, but there wasn’t a proper outlet for it.

The pump had been running from an extension cord into the lanai, where other equipment was already plugged in. That setup ended up causing problems with the outlet and GFCI protection.

We came out, got the affected outlets working again, then returned to install a dedicated 20 amp circuit from the pool panel for the pool pump.

We also replaced the burnt outdoor receptacle and broken flip cover with a weather-resistant GFCI outlet and an in-use weatherproof cover.

Pool equipment really needs the right wiring, proper GFCI protection, proper grounding & bonding, and weather-rated outdoor materials — especially here in Florida.

Kitchen remodel electrical work completed in Dunedin.

This project included undercabinet LED lighting on a dimmer, two new pendant lights over the island on a separate dimmer, recessed lighting, new devices, a dishwasher outlet, and a new 4-wire range circuit.

The part most people don’t see is the planning behind it. Kitchen lighting, appliance wiring, cabinet lighting, dimmers, and circuit requirements all need to be thought through before the cabinets, tile, and finishes are complete.

Clean lighting makes a big difference in how a kitchen looks and functions.

As a company that hires apprentices, this is something we’ve really started noticing lately.
Thought this might help job seekers, students, or parents helping someone put a resume together.

Job seekers — from an employer’s perspective, almost every resume looks the same now. “Motivated and hardworking professional…” “Strong problem-solving skills…” “Seeking an opportunity to grow…” - Typically followed by a list of the same generic bullet points taken from the int...
