Prevents Overgrown Weeds: Installing landscape fabric and gravel will prevent w**ds from growing next to your wall (remember, dry w**ds are a fire hazard).
Lower Paint Protection: Without gravel, rain will splash dirt, staining the lower part of the wall (in some cases, you might need to repaint to get rid of that stain).
Foundation Protection: After grading and installing gravel, rainwater will flow away from the foundation, preventing some future humidity problems in the foundation.

this side of the house was too steep, causing the elements to move the gravel down, exposing the landscape fabric, and eroding the area. The retaining wall will fix the problem, not only leaving a nice space to walk on the side but also creating a flat surface on top, which can now be used for a small tool shed or maybe a bike shed.
