WHAT MAKES A GREAT PUBLIC FOUNTAIN

Some of the best fountains aren’t the biggest or the most complex.
They’re the ones that people naturally gather around.

A well-designed water feature becomes part of how people experience a space. Children run through it in the summer. People sit nearby during lunch. In the evening it adds movement and atmosphere to the plaza. When that happens, the fountain stops being just a piece of infrastructure and becomes part of the identity of the place.

That’s the goal of most of the projects we work on at Laughing Waters. Helping design teams bring water into public spaces in a way that feels natural, welcoming, and built to last.

Inside the Construction of the Harmony Square Fountain

Public spaces today are no longer just open areas—they’re designed destinations built to bring people together.

A perfect example is the Harmony Square fountain in Tinley Park, Illinois—a vibrant community centerpiece constructed by Laughing Waters.

Our role here was to carry out the design and deliver the complete water feature scope through install and commissioning. The goal was not just a good opening day. The goal was something the Village of Tinley Park Illinois Government can run hard, day after day, with constant foot traffic, and still feel effortless to the public.

From underground infrastructure to final activation, every project is designed to transform spaces into destinations where people gather, interact, and come back again and again.
