Cold Weather Advisory
❄️COLD WEATHER & FREEZE ADVISORY❄️
This coming week from Sunday to Sunday is forecasting low 30s to mid 20s in the overnight hours. With warmer temps during the day this should only effect vulnerable exposed pipes overnight but forecasts can also change. There is a real possibility for power outages when our power grids are overloaded locally and regionally.
⚠️IMPORTANT REMIDERS⚠️
1. Having a back-up heat source is a good consideration. Our power grid is hit hard when 500,000+ electric heaters turn on all at once. This can cause the system to go down from intermittently to extended periods if surrounding areas demand also spikes.
2. On Demand (Tankless) Water Heaters can freeze and burst internally if not drained or equipped with a recirculation pump. There is no insulation inside there and heaters mounted outside are fully exposed ... and expensive!
3. We recommend do NOT turn your water off at the street. This can turn 1 broken pipe into multiple burst points since the lines can not release pressure if you do have a break.
4. Outdoor showers should be drained, wrapped, or left dripping (BOTH HOT & COLD). The shower valves and components do not hold up well to freeze expansion and can split open with even a light freeze. Draining also applies to Lawn Sprinkler systems with exposed pipes.
5. ANY exposed pipes can be vulnerable even with a light freeze. Wrapping pipes with towels, blankets, foam, etc can help prevent breakage in a light freeze event as long as temps warm back up during the daytime hours.
