Part 3 with Amanda. Continuing the explanation of what trees would need removing. All Things Trees prides themselves of saving every tree they can. However there are sure signs of a non-viable tree that is hazardous around public structures. She explains why this tree would need to be removed.

This has been an eventful morning, with the start of this heat wave. We've received 4 phone calls for tree emergencies this morning already. (Oak, pine, sycamore and a maple)

Let's talk about summer limb drop. It's a phenomenon that happens in hot weather when the trees uptake plenty of water, but can't transpire it fast enough through their leaves. The limbs get overly heavy and begin to "self-prune". It happens without warning unfortunately, so on overly hot days, it's best to just stay out from under large trees if you can.

I'm going to link a great article below for anyone interested.

***NOMINATIONS OPEN UNTIL AUGUST 16***

🌲 COMMUNITY HELPING COMMUNITY 🌲

The Ridge Roots Project was created to help address qualifying tree safety concerns for residents here on the Ridge.

Each quarter, one project will be selected based on overall risk, urgency, and potential community impact. This is not a raffle or random drawing β€” submissions are reviewed using professional arborist assessment to help prioritize the most critical situations first. Our goal is not to duplicate efforts, so we will be focusing on projects that fall within a gap in other available resources.

Projects may include concerns involving:
β€’ Hazard trees near homes or access routes
β€’ Safety risks affecting elderly or disabled residents
β€’ Trees impacted by storms, fire damage, or decline
β€’ Situations creating immediate defensible space or access concerns

Even if a project is not selected, submissions help us better understand the safety concerns facing our community, and we’re always happy to provide general guidance whenever possible.

🌲 Nominate yourself, a neighbor, family member, or community project below:

Please share this post so we can reach community members who may need help but may not see this themselves.

I found this abnormality on a redwood tree I was assessing today. Notice how the needles on the upper/new growth are curled and distorted, while the older foliage below remains relatively normal.

This type of deformation is commonly associated with herbicide exposure or drift injury from nearby w**d control products.

Once we determine what product may have been applied and the extent of exposure, we can develop a management plan focused on reducing stress and supporting the tree’s recovery.
