The EASIEST way to frame in a valley!

Alright y’all, I got a little fancy with my engineered hardwood in my hallway. I installed some 6” white oak on a herringbone pattern then framed it in a double border and used an inlay to add another eye catching detail! It was a bit of a challenge to make it all come together but I think I pulled it off!? What y’all think??

We did a lot of scouring for flooring and finally decided on this. The flooring is from the Avaron Collection in Umbria, it is an 6” English White Oak by Building Plastics Inc. .I am on a slab, so I did a glue down installation.

I installed the flooring first on a herringbone pattern with the edges running wild. After the adhesive dried, I came back with my track saw and cut the flooring to achieve the dimension I had painstakingly figured out. 😉

The inlay I used is the 1/2” Jolly in satin brass by Schluter-Systems North America .I cut & inverted it so I could have the large face exposed. The tongue side of the flooring is perfect for the profile to set down in flush which keeps it supported perfectly. I used some house secrets to adhere it in place.

I will definitely be creating some videos on this installation soon, I have another hallway that needs to be done exactly like this. So, I wanted to get a method figured out before I showed the process.

MONOPOLY framing, you ever heard of it!? Well, if you haven’t and you’re wanting to improve on the energy efficiency of your builds…this is a must have detail! I first saw this air sealing method on some guys channel you may have heard of before 😉 Matt Risinger & thought it was a really slick way to seal up the envelope of a house.

Now I don’t have to go back and cut out and caulk around all of my rafters tails or trusses. I simply tape the zip wall where it meets the roof then build my overhang on later.

Our powder bath reveal…this is the first room to be completed in what is my personal home & It looks phenomenal!

My wife, Emily, has done an absolute wonderful job designing this guest powder bath. She had a vision and I’m the guy that made it happen! 😉 We slammed a ton of high end details and finishes into this small room. It’s all about the details and the ex*****on of the install that makes this room feel so luxurious!

Let me share some of the deets with yall!

The base board is a 1x12 primed pine with a pc of cove mold or inside corner added to the top making it a true 12” tall base. I added some WKD flair to the installation of the receptacle. I didn’t want to install a standard cover that just sets on top of the base…so I recessed the receptacle & face plates (which are screw-less) to give a super clean high end look.

For the casing, I used a 1x6 on the header, and 1x4’s on the sides. I ripped down a 1x to 1.5” & applied it to the perimeter of the casing. After that I also added a pc of cove mold for a little extra appeal.

The faux panels are simply a picture molding that I mitered to make symmetrical panels that are nailed on top of the drywall then painted all the same color.

The crown molding is a 7.5” cove which was also painted the same color match blue.

The paint is a color match that we pulled out from the wallpaper which is Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane trim in semi gloss.

We used a beautiful floral print wallpaper, Glasshouse Flora Sky Blue by Graham & Brown

The door is a solid core 2 panel round top. The k**b is out of the Laura Collection in satin brass by Mega Handles

The brass threshold is Schluter-Systems North America jolly trim that I installed on its side to give me a full 1/2” width transition.

The toilet supply shutoff is the Pro Plate by Sioux Chief Mfg

The Faucet and towel bar is Nicoli line in champagne bronze by Delta Faucet

The vanity is the Collette 48” freestanding vanity in cinnamon oak with a Carrara marble top.

The tile is Allen + Roth matte porcelain wood look tile In Maui Honey. I used LATICRETE Permacolor grout in Latte.

The CLAMEX…a fastener you may have NEVER seen before!?

This is a legit way to install 2 boards together without risk of it separating over time. The Zeta P2 by Lamello USA is a super versatile tool. It is a little bit on the costly side but the results are worth every penny! I bought mine for a specific job a few years back and now I use it all the time!

THROW AWAY those unsightly “J” Blocks and let me show you the ULTIMATE Upgrade for exterior lighting using nothing but the best….SOLID COPPER!

This is a “how to” tutorial on a way I used solid copper to build the sexiest lantern or light mounts you’ve ever seen! This is super easy to achieve and the cost is very minimal. I made this all from scrap materials I had left over from a previous project on this build.

AIR SEALING your fasteners on Zip Panels…Don’t know what to use, try you some Lexel made by my buddies Sashco Inc. There are many uses for it, but here is another one to add to that long list! Apply a generous dap and take a putty knife and spot the nail head. Just make sure you don’t put you hand in it before it dries!! 😆 Lexel & huberwood Zip System is an awesome combination 💪🏼
