UNDERGROUND PLUMBING UTILITY SUPERINTENDENT
The role oversees all aspects of field operations for underground utility projects, including planning, scheduling, coordinating work, ensuring safety compliance, managing crews, and maintaining quality standards during the installation and repair of underground utilities like water lines, sewer pipes, and gas pipelines; essentially acting as the on-site leader for all underground utility construction activities.
Key responsibilities of an underground utility superintendent:
• Project Management:
Develop and execute project plans, manage timelines, and monitor progress to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Crew Supervision:
Lead and oversee field crews, assign tasks, provide training, and ensuring proper safety procedures are followed.
• Site Safety:
Implement and enforce strict safety protocols on the job site, conducting regular inspections and addressing potential hazards.
• Quality Control:
Inspect all work performed to guarantee quality standards are met, including proper installation techniques and material specifications.
• Coordination with Stakeholders:
Collaborate with engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and homeowners to address concerns and maintain open communication.
• Permitting and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all local permits, regulations, and excavation safety guidelines. Also includes knowledge and implementation of State & City road-lane closers (Safety, flagging & Documentation).
Required Skills and Experience:
• Extensive knowledge of underground utility construction practices, including trenching, pipe installation, and backfilling techniques.
• Experience with reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and specifications
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage crews effectively
• Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders
• Proficient in safety procedures and incident reporting
• Ability to manage budgets and track project costs
• Familiarity with construction equipment and machinery used in underground utility projects
Typical Work Environment:
• Primarily outdoors on construction sites, often in various weather conditions
• Exposure to heavy machinery and potential hazards associated with excavation work
• May require working in confined spaces depending on the project
