Lifetime Warranties Made Simple: Why Pasadena Plumbers Is Your Go-To for Moen & Kohler Repairs

When it comes to plumbing, investing in quality brands like Moen and Kohler pays off—literally. Both companies back their faucets and shower fixtures with a lifetime warranty on parts replacement, meaning you can get cartridges, faucet parts, and other essential components replaced at no cost.

It sounds simple, right? Just call in for your part, wait for it to arrive, and install it yourself. But here’s the catch: what looks like a quick DIY project can quickly turn into a frustrating and costly mistake.

The Hidden Challenges of DIY Replacements

At first glance, swapping out a shower cartridge or faucet part seems straightforward. But without the right tools, experience, and know-how, you could run into issues like:

• Stripped Screws & Stuck Parts: Cartridges often seize
in place over time, requiring specialized pullers or
extraction tools. Forcing them out can crack the valve
body inside your wall.

• Leaks & Misalignment: Installing a part even slightly off
can cause persistent leaks or uneven water flow.

• Voided Warranties: Damage caused by improper
installation may void your warranty protection.

• Lost Time: What you thought would take 30 minutes can
eat up your entire afternoon—and still leave you without
running water.

Here’s how we take the stress out of the process:

✅ Parts On Hand – We stock common Moen and Kohler
replacement parts so you don’t always have to wait for
shipping.

✅ Expert Installation – Our plumbers have the proper tools
and training to replace cartridges and faucet parts
safely and efficiently.

✅ Time Back in Your Day – Instead of wrestling with a
shower valve, you can relax knowing we’ll get your
water flowing again quickly.

✅ Warranty Confidence – We’ll ensure your replacement is
installed properly, keeping your warranty protections
intact.

The Hidden Dangers of Quest (Polybutylene) Pipe and Why It Was Outlawed

If your home was built between the late 1970s and mid-1990s, there’s a good chance you may still have Quest pipe — also known as polybutylene (PB) pipe or the “grey pipe.” At the time, it was hailed as an affordable alternative to copper. But over the years, millions of homeowners have discovered that this material comes with serious risks. In fact, it was banned from use in new construction because of the dangers it poses.

Today, replacing Quest pipe is one of the most important upgrades you can make to protect your home, your family, and your wallet.

What Is Quest Pipe?

Quest pipe is a flexible, grey plastic plumbing material installed in millions of homes across the United States. It was cheaper and easier to install than copper, which made it appealing for builders during the housing boom of the 1980s and 1990s.

Unfortunately, time has shown that what looked like a cost-saver became a long-term liability.

Why Was Quest Pipe Outlawed?

Quest (polybutylene) pipe was outlawed because of its high failure rate. Exposure to common water treatment chemicals, like chlorine, causes the plastic to deteriorate from the inside out. That means even if the pipe looks fine on the outside, it could be weakening within.

This led to:
• Sudden bursts and catastrophic leaks
• Water damage to walls, floors, and foundations
• Mold growth and costly repairs
• Class action lawsuits in the 1990s

By the late 1990s, Quest pipe was banned for new installations, leaving millions of homeowners with plumbing systems that are essentially ticking time bombs.

The Dangers of Keeping Quest Pipe in Your Home

From a homeowner’s perspective, the risks of Quest pipe aren’t just technical—they’re personal and financial.

• Unexpected leaks: Pipes can fail without warning, flooding your home in minutes.

• Insurance headaches: Some insurers may raise premiums, exclude water damage coverage, or refuse to cover homes with Quest pipe altogether.

• Lower home value: If you plan to sell, home inspectors and buyers see Quest pipe as a red flag.

• Health risks: Water leaks promote mold growth, which can trigger allergies, asthma, and other health problems.

The Safe Solution: Re-Pipe with PEX or Copper

The good news? You don’t have to live with the risk. At Pasadena Plumbers, we specialize in whole-home repiping using flexible PEX tubing or durable copper piping.

• PEX tubing is flexible, resistant to chemical corrosion, and cost-effective.

• Copper piping is long-lasting, safe, and trusted for decades.

Both options eliminate the dangers of Quest pipe and give you peace of mind that your home is protected for years to come.

Don’t Wait for a Leak — Take Action Today

Every day you keep Quest pipe in your home, you’re taking a risk. Leaks often happen when you least expect them—overnight, during vacations, or when no one is home to stop the damage.

✅ Protect your investment.
✅ Safeguard your family.
✅ Upgrade your plumbing system once and for all.

👉 Call Pasadena Plumbers today to schedule your free repiping consultation and learn whether PEX or copper is the best solution for your home. 410 437 2942

🚿 Do You Need a Pressure Reduction Tank for Your Water Heater? Here’s Why It’s Code in Anne Arundel County

If you’re a homeowner in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and you’re on city water, there’s one crucial component your water heater must have: a pressure reduction tank. This isn’t just a best practice—it’s code. Neglecting this requirement can lead to serious plumbing issues, water damage, and failed inspections.

As your trusted local plumber, we’re breaking down why this small but mighty device is essential—and how Pasadena Plumbers can help you stay compliant and protect your home.

✅ What Is a Pressure Reduction Tank?

Also known as a thermal expansion tank, this small tank is typically installed on your home’s water heater. When your water heater heats cold water, the water expands—creating pressure inside your plumbing system. Without a place for that excess pressure to go, it can cause:
• Stress on your pipes and fittings
• Leaky faucets or valves
• Premature water heater failure
• Even burst pipes in extreme cases

A pressure reduction tank gives that expanded water a safe place to go, keeping your plumbing system balanced and safe.

🏠 Why It’s Required in Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Anne Arundel County plumbing code mandates the installation of pressure reduction tanks on water heaters connected to city water. The reason? Backflow prevention valves, which are now standard on city water connections, keep water from flowing back into the main line—trapping pressure inside your home’s system.

That means the thermal expansion from your water heater has nowhere to go unless you have a properly installed expansion tank. Failing to install one can lead to code violations, failed home inspections, and major plumbing headaches down the road.

🔧 Signs You May Need a Pressure Tank (Or a Replacement)

If you’re not sure whether your system is protected, look out for these signs:
• Water dripping from the temperature and pressure relief valve (TPR valve)
• Banging pipes (known as “water hammer”)
• Fluctuating water pressure
• Short water heater lifespan

Our team at Pasadena Plumbers can inspect your setup and determine if your system is up to code.

Toilet Paper Isn’t the Enemy

👀 It’s not always the toilet paper’s fault.

It is the wipes' fault. Wipes of any kind are a no no for plumbing. They do not break down and will result in major clogs.

🚫 That mystery clog? Could be a Lego. Or a hair ball. Or your kid’s race car. Then there was the time it turned out to be a small aerosol can. Did we mention that Swiffer mop wipes don't flush well ? Don't even get us started on SLIME, expandable beads, boba bubbles and putty products. JUST THROW IT ALL OUT because we're seeing

🛠️ Whatever it is, we’ll get your life flowing again. *Some cases do require toilet or pipe replacement* The after effects of pouring a 5 pound bag of dry oatmeal down the kitchen drain is similar to pouring concrete in there. 10 pounds of potato peels down the disposal makes for a Griswold style holiday we're writing into our book.

Call the pros at Pasadena Plumbers before your toilet or drains starts sending SOS signals. 💩
