With spring growth underway in vineyards across the country, sheep are back in the rows helping prepare the land for the season ahead.

Through natural grazing, they support healthier soils, stronger vines, and a more sustainable vineyard ecosystem, reducing the need for heavy machinery and herbicides while naturally returning nutrients back into the soil.

There are many different ways to raise livestock. I think my sheep and goats enjoy their jobs and their lives, a lot more than if they were stuck in a field all the time

A new kind of pasture is coming to URI's Peckham Farm, one that combines forestland with pasture.

Google once hired 200 goats from California Grazing to maintain the grass at its Mountain View headquarters.

Director Dan Hoffman said the goats were brought in as a low-carbon alternative to gas-powered lawn mowers, helping clear weeds, tame scrubland, and reduce fire risk.

The herd, guided by a border collie named Jen, spends about a week grazing and naturally fertilizing the grounds.

Google says the cost is similar to mowing but far more eco-friendly. The unusual practice, first noted in 2009, sparked social-media reactions.

Google isn’t alone in using goats for lawn care; Yahoo! has been doing the same since 2007.
