On July 22nd, CalCERTS notified the California Energy Commission (CEC) that it will no longer accept project registrations after August 2nd, 2024.

The CalCERTS registry will close permanently on September 2nd, 2024.

We at CA HERS Raters are approved with the alternative platform CHEERS for CEC T24 clearance.

As energy efficiency and building performance come more to the fore front, builders and home owners are being hit with title 24 / HERS inspections prior to receiving their final. This is due to the responsible party / person (contractor or homeowner) not knowing how important it is to get the inspections done when they are due in the flow of construction. Many inspections are preformed during the rough construction process and once they move to drywall, access issues arise. ENERGYSTAR AND 45L tax credits
Dwellings certified under the ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction or the ENERGY STAR Manufactured New Homes programs sold or rented after December 31, 2022 will be eligible for a $2,500 tax credit. This credit jumps to $5,000 if the units are certified under the Zero Energy Ready homes program (ZER).
Dwellings certified under the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction National Program will also be eligible for these benefits, including high-rise projects. These tax credits remain in effect through 2032.

We just inspected a new build in Paso Robles. The HVAC company tried some shady stuff by purposefully concealing the R insulation valve of the duct system (installed R6 should of been R8). The installer also made the equipment larger then the title 24 specs. This requires a recalculated title 24 compliance documents as the system size must match California Energy Commissions CFR1 by the title 24 plan. This is a hard fail.

We did a few inspection in Santa Barbara yesterday and IAQ fans are just kicking everyones ass....lol.

Remember to have a fan for exhaust wired for as a constantly running air exchanger. If it is not it's a hard fail. We are not allowed to make any changes nor repairs so it is a re inspection.

Also on the plans they had 1 split Heat and AC system and in the home they had 2 Air handlers and 2 condensers. So to get the full PASS they need have the plan re done to the install and I do not believe they will make it....a 590k build in jeopardy due to a builder making field changes and not getting it approved prior to install.

Moral is call us in advance or with any questions, we can assist in determining timelines, requirements and help build a path to passing all inspections.

The BLOWER DOOR test is the #1 test in my opinion to determine what an existing homes ability is to use all components of an energy plan due to the homes ability to be sealed fully. For this test we test we de- pressure the entier home and we can then measure how much leakage there is. In areas that use the heater in winter and AC in the summer this test is very valuable.
