A Radon system is an investment to your health and your home- when we install a system we prioritize effectiveness, aesthetics AND longevity. When clients come to us asking if we install our systems going into sump crocks are answer is always, “ well we can but….” The META approach is to go into the actual foundation for a permanent fixture and this is the preferred method deemed by the Ohio department of health who regulates radon in Ohio. Watch our process as we create an extraction point to mitigate the radon in this home.

Radon can enter your home through various pathways, including:
1. Soil: Radon is formed naturally from the decay of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It can seep through the soil and enter your home through cracks and openings in the foundation.
2. Water: If your home has a private well or uses groundwater, radon can dissolve in the water and be released into the air when you use water for showering, cooking, and other household activities.
3. Building materials: Some building materials, such as concrete, can contain small amounts of uranium and radium, which can emit radon gas into your home.
4. Openings: Any openings in your home's foundation, such as cracks in the walls, floors, or foundation, as well as gaps around pipes, can allow radon to enter.
5. Crawl spaces: Radon can accumulate in crawl spaces, and if your home has an open crawl space, it can seep into your living space.
It's important to have your home tested for radon to determine if there are dangerous levels of this gas present. If you do have high levels of radon, there are mitigation techniques that can be used to reduce the levels and protect your health.

It’s time for spring checklists to maintain your home and prepare for brighter-warmer days! 🌞 Many folks forget to include their radon mitigation system and or radon testing in this checklist. Here are a few tips on how to inspect and maintain your radon system or radon levels in your home.

Conduct a Radon Test every 2 years at minimum: Before installing a radon mitigation system, you should have your home tested for radon levels. After the system is installed, you should conduct another radon test to ensure that the system is effectively reducing the radon levels in your home- it is highly recommended to continue to test every 2 years following the installation of your radon system as well. You can use a do-it-yourself radon test kit or hire a professional to conduct the test.
Monitor the System: You can also monitor the performance of your radon mitigation system by regularly checking the manometer gauge on the system. The manometer gauge measures the pressure inside the system and can indicate if the system is functioning properly. If the gauge reading is not in the normal range, you should contact a radon mitigation professional for assistance.
Schedule Regular Maintenance: It's important to schedule regular maintenance for your radon mitigation system to ensure that it is working effectively. This may include replacing the air filter and checking the fan to make sure it's running properly. It's recommended to have your system inspected and maintained by a professional every 2-3 years.
Look for Signs of Trouble: If you notice any signs of trouble, such as a strange odor, increased humidity, or water damage around the radon mitigation system, you should contact a professional immediately. These signs may indicate that the system is not functioning properly and may require repairs.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your radon mitigation system is working effectively and protecting you and your family from the harmful effects of radon gas.

The first step in radon mitigation is to test your home or building for radon levels. This can be done with a simple test kit that can be purchased at most home improvement stores, or by hiring a professional radon testing company.

If your home or building has elevated levels of radon, a radon mitigation contractor will design and install a mitigation system that is specific to your home or building's needs. A common method of mitigation is to install a vent pipe system that draws radon from beneath the foundation and vents it outside.

It's important to hire a qualified and experienced radon mitigation contractor to ensure that the system is installed properly and effectively reduces radon levels in your home or building. Give us a call or DM to learn more about radon and the process of detecting and remediating it in your home.
