bld architecture "Design matters." -Alexander Badalamenti, AIA President / CEO bld architecture pays close attention to Long Island’s environment and architectural heritage.

bld architecture is an established leader in architectural design on Long Island and the surrounding areas, providing services to both the private and public sectors since 1974. Our practice offers a diverse range of design services to meet the challenges of the ever-changing marketplace. bld architecture’s built work includes notable buildings for many of Long Island’s key enterprises in various

markets including commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, interiors, hospitality, hotels, master planning, municipal, residential, retail, and historic restoration/adaptive reuse. A thoughtful appreciation for the community in which we live and work is at the core of every project we undertake. We have a proven track record with clients for the design of new buildings as well as the renovation of existing facilities. We are guided by our principles to create living and working environments that are innovative, pragmatic and deliver creative spaces through an on-time and on-budget philosophy. Magnificent, historic buildings fill our landscape and anchor our communities. Many of these buildings struggle for existence and are in need of sensitive upgrades and/or maintenance. Our firm is actively involved in identifying buildings with historic significance and finding ways to help with the preservation, restoration and adaptive reuse of these remarkable landmark structures. As a firm, bld architecture is immersed in Long Island’s unique and fascinating past. We make conscious commitments to its future. The caliber of our work is surpassed only by the integrity of our staff.

From Vision to Reality: The Royal Blue

Royal Blue is more than a building—it’s a blueprint for how architecture, smart growth, and strong partnerships can shape a more resilient and inclusive Long Island.

The Royal Blue was named Top Smart Growth Project by Long Island Business News—a recognition that celebrates thoughtful design, community investment, and forward-thinking development.

Designed by bld architecture for Blue Communities, this $45 million project at 101 Searing Avenue in Mineola represents a bold step toward a more connected and elevated style of living on Long Island.

With 54 modern residences—six reserved for workforce housing—Royal Blue blends luxury with accessibility. Just a short walk from the LIRR, it’s transit-oriented and future-focused. From the rooftop whirlpool bath and pickleball court to the pet spa, fitness center, and sauna, every detail is crafted to enhance everyday life.

As Senator Jack Martins shared at the ribbon cutting:

“We’re not just building for today—we’re building for the next hundred years.”

At bld architecture, we build more than structures made of steel, brick, and glass. We work with small businesses, local developers, and state government agencies to create foundational spaces that offer a better quality of life for Long Island communities. Whether we’re renovating a healthcare center lobby, a local art gallery, or creating a learning space for people living with disabilities, community is at the center of all we do.

Strengthening Municipal Divisions - Lakeland Fire Department. This firehouse in Ronkonkoma, NY, is undergoing a full renovation and expansion expected to be completed at the end of this year. The project is transforming the old 21,000-square-foot building into a 23,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, firehouse and a 3,100-square-foot maintenance building. The 3.9-acre site will also get new utilities and infrastructure.

Expanding Education - Suffolk County Community College, Visual Arts Building. bld architecture renovated Suffolk County Community College's Visual Arts Program in Brentwood’s Sagtikos Building, originally built in 1987. The 110,000-square-foot facility underwent a 32,000-square-foot reconfiguration. bld managed initial studies through final design and construction documents, including a new lobby and science and visual arts updates.

Building Up Cultural Arts - Gallery North. Situated on a 2.5-acre property in the Setauket Historic District, Gallery North includes three main buildings (an art gallery, a conference center, and a commercial office space) and three outbuildings (an art storage barn, a garage storage shed, and the Anais House). bld architecture's master plan enhances the gallery's neighborhood feel, expands the gallery building, and adds a new studio workshop.

Supporting Community Outreach - Winters Center for Autism. Joe Winters, of Winter Bros., enlisted bld architecture to design a 10,000-square-foot center for autism tribute in honor of his son in West Babylon. The center renovates an industrial building, adding a second floor and greenhouse, and offers career training and personal management skills for adults on the autism spectrum. It features stress-minimizing design elements and includes an in-house deli for student training and community service.

Historic Master Planning Restoration - Tesla Science Center. The Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe in Shoreham has partnered with bld architecture to renovate and develop its 16.5-acre property, originally housing Nikola Tesla's laboratory and transmission tower designed by Stanford White in 1901–1902. The original lab, adapted for photographic paper emulsion production, retains significant historical fabric, including the tower foundations, and was designated a National Historic Place in July 2018.

Improving Healthcare Experience - LICH at NYU Langone Health. bld architecture revamped Long Island Community Hospital's 4,000-square-foot main visitor lobby in East Patchogue, sponsored by Walter and Rosemarie Ladick. The redesigned lobby offers a progressive and comforting atmosphere with warm materials, enhanced lighting, modern furniture, and natural light transparency. The renovation included the lobby upgrade, gift shop, café, elevators, and support areas.

Whether it's a completed site, a site under construction, or a site we're about to break ground on, each project makes us proud to be part of the Long Island communities they serve.

Let bld know how to assist on your next community-focused project, big or small!
