A clean job site tells you everything you need to know about the contractor running it. 👊🔨

I don’t care how talented you are with a saw, how perfect your cuts are, or how many years you’ve been in the trades—if your job site looks like a fu***ng bomb went off at the end of the day, that reflects on your company.

Period.

I’ve always believed that your company is only as good as the standard you’re willing to personally enforce. That’s why as long as my name is on the company, you’re going to see me on site.

I’m not running my business from the front seat of a truck while everybody else figures it out.

I want to know what’s happening.
I want to see the details.
I want my guys held to a standard.
And I want the homeowner to know exactly who is responsible for their project.

At the end of EVERY working day, we clean.

Floors swept.
Scraps picked up.
Tools organized.
Cords wrapped.
Miter saws and table saws unplugged.
Blades dropped and secured.
Walkways clear.
Job site left looking like PROFESSIONALS were there.

And it isn’t just about appearance.

It’s about safety.

Homeowners have kids. They have family. They have friends who want to walk through and see the progress after we leave.

The last thing I ever want is somebody getting hurt because my company was too lazy to spend another 20 minutes securing the site properly.

I actually put job-site cleanliness and end-of-day safety procedures IN MY CONTRACTS.

And believe it or not, I’ve won work because homeowners noticed it.

That tells you something.

Anybody can make a job look good in the finished pictures.

Show me what your job site looks like at 4:30 PM on a Wednesday when nobody thinks the camera is rolling.

THAT tells me what kind of contractor you are.

Craftsmanship matters.
Organization matters.
Cleanliness matters.
Safety matters.
Leadership matters.

Your reputation is being built long before the final walkthrough.

Run your job site like your name is on it.

Joseph’s first time using a framing nailer—and he already looks like he belongs on the crew. 🔨💪

This was only his third or fourth day on a job site, and I couldn’t be prouder.

He caught on fast. He loves working with his hands, learning the trade, and being part of the crew. I’ve got a feeling he’s going to be one hell of a carpenter someday.

And yes—Dad started him off right. 😂 Joseph was running the Paslode XPro cordless framing nailer for the first time and handled it like a pro.

But this is about more than construction.

I’m a sixth-generation carpenter, and passing the trade down to my children means everything to me. My oldest is already on site every day, Joseph is getting started, and hopefully my other son—and even my daughter—choose to join us someday.

There’s no better feeling than looking across the job site and seeing your kids working beside you.

Just another fun day on site with the guys. At this point, we were on stairwell day—and if you know me, you know I love me some stairs. 😂 Definitely one of my favorite things to do: figure them, lay them out, cut them, and build them.

Here I am thinking I’m cool with the Ray-Ban Meta glasses 😂 showing off while cutting the stair stringers for the Gloucester addition.

I’m using the Hilti North America 🇺🇸 nuron 7-1/4” cordless rear-handle circular saw, paired with a Crescent Tools nail slicer 7&1/4 framing blade this hilti it is definitely one smooth-operating tool. I do wish it had a little more RPM, but anybody who runs Hilti Nuron cordless tools knows what I mean—they’re extremely comfortable in your hands, smooth, precise, and built to take a beating on a job site.

Tried, tested, and true. 👊🔨

Showing a little behind-the-scenes of this deck inlay build 👇

We designed and installed a custom compass rose, then wrapped it in a crisp picture-frame border to really make it pop.

Even though the deck framing already had joist tape installed, inlays introduce extra seams where water can collect—so I added another layer of protection. I installed Benjamin Obdyke HydroGap UV flashing under the entire inlay area before assembly.

For the build, I used a combo of Jane Bondarenko CA adhesive and Kreg Tool pocket hole screws to lock everything together. That glue + mechanical fastening combo keeps the compass rose and border absolutely rock solid.

I usually reach for clear Lexel, but since I couldn’t get it this time, I switched to DAP hybrid silicone to seal everything up.

That sealant is doing double duty—it helps lock the inlay pieces in place and adds another barrier against moisture sneaking into the seams. The decking itself is fine, but I always like to protect what’s underneath as much as possible.

It’s an extra step, but it’s exactly the kind of detail that takes a build from good… to dialed in and built to last for years.

We’re officially wrapped on our Rockport addition—and this one feels special.

Today I went back for final touch-ups, a full cleanup, and to set the compass rose pointing true north. Before heading out, the whole family came outside—including the in-laws—to thank me repeatedly for the work.

They were blown away by the finished product and the entire experience from start to finish. The father even said he sometimes just stands inside and looks around, thinking about how great it turned out. That kind of feedback hits different.

As a hands-on contractor who was in the trenches the whole way through, that’s an incredible feeling.

Anyone in this business knows you can’t please everyone. Different personalities, expectations, and challenges come with every job. But when a project like this finishes on time, on budget, and without major issues, it’s extremely rewarding.

We used evalast_americas decking for the back deck and front landing, going with a clean two-tone design.

The compass rose was a little extra I decided to include for the clients. Yes, it costs to run a business—but sometimes you give a little back, especially when the clients truly appreciate the work.

And yes… I forgot my pressure washer, so it was hose-and-scrub-brush duty today. Won’t make that mistake again 😂

Proud of how this one came together. Even prouder of the reaction from the clients—that’s what makes the long days worth it.

The new Milwaukee Tool Mechanical Carpenter Pencil has been another great addition to my everyday carry. 🔥

I’ve been putting it to work for the past couple of weeks, and Milwaukee really hit it home with this design. It’s very similar to the Pica, but come on… you can’t beat that red and black! 😂

I pretty much have every major brand of mechanical carpenter pencil spread across my tool belts, and honestly, I like having multiple pencils on me. One of the biggest advantages is being able to keep different colored leads loaded in each one. Instead of constantly swapping leads, I just grab the pencil with the color I need and keep working.

I also picked up a few of the nicpro mechanical pencils on Amazon, and I’ve honestly been impressed with them. I have both the standard mechanical carpenter pencil and the fine-lead version for finish work. They’re well made, have held up great, and are an excellent value. The carpenter pencil is awesome for framing and general layout, while the fine-lead version is perfect for trim work, cabinetry, and anywhere you need a more precise mark.

As for the Hultafors Tools US pencil, it’s still my favorite when it comes to scribing. The holder is designed really well, and while filming this video I actually realized the lead extends through the holder, giving you a thicker grip when needed. Even better, you can use the holder itself as a scribing guide, which made me appreciate the design even more.

Every one of these pencils has its own strengths, and that’s why I like carrying multiple brands. Different jobs call for different tools, and having the right pencil for the task makes life a whole lot easier. I love trying new products because there’s always a feature or design that surprises you and makes you work just a little more efficiently.

I’ve had this Wrango Tools Titanium Trim / glazier Bar for quite a while now, and it has been an absolute workhorse. 🔥

The design is excellent, and you can tell a lot of thought went into it. I’ve used this thing on countless jobs, and the chisel tip is still just as sharp as the day I got it. That alone says a lot about the quality of the material and craftsmanship.

The other day I was replacing a window, and the existing interior trim was original to the house. It would’ve been difficult and expensive to reproduce, so I wanted to save it. This trim bar made the job easy. I was able to carefully work the trim loose without damaging it, which saved a ton of time and kept the original wood intact.

It has a ton of uses on the jobsite, but that’s probably where I appreciate it the most. Sometimes the right hand tool makes all the difference, and this is definitely one I always keep close by.

Huge shoutout to Dennis and the crew at Wrango Tools for building tools that are made to be used—not just look good. Outstanding product. 👊💪

Big shoutout to for continuing to come out with some seriously innovative products. 👏

I’ve been using their new generation Stair Gauge Holder, and it’s one of those simple ideas that makes a big difference on the jobsite. It clips onto just about anything—your tool belt, pocket, suspenders, or wherever it’s most convenient—and the stair gauges lock in extremely well. No more digging around your bags or worrying about them falling off while you’re moving around the jobsite.

It’s the little innovations like this that make work more efficient, and that’s something I can definitely appreciate. Great product, guys—keep it up! 💪

Been rocking the KEEN Utility mens vista energy low top comp toe work sneakers in the v***r/ black colorway, and they’ve been treating me really well! 🔥

I also have a pair of the KEEN Red Hooks, and I absolutely love those too. Both are extremely comfortable, but I needed something lighter for the summer because traditional moc-toe work boots can get your feet cooking in the heat. The SpeedWorks are lightweight, breathable, and still give you the protection of a carbon safety toe. They’ve been a great addition to the jobsite.

And of course, I’ve gotta show off my Pat custom tool belt. This thing is an absolute work of art. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and comfort are second to none. Pat absolutely knocked it out of the park, and I couldn’t be happier with this setup. If you’re looking for a truly custom belt built around the way you work, he’s your guy. 👊

Last but definitely not least, I’ve gotta show some love to my man Dennis over at Wrango Tools. If you haven’t checked out his titanium hand tools yet, you’re missing out. They’re lightweight, incredibly well made, and without a doubt some of the best titanium hand tools in the game.

And would you just look at that sexy Nighthawk… she’s an absolute beauty! 🥵😂 That setup just keeps getting better every time I look at it.

Got to put the new FLEX North America Inc. flexpowertoolsna 24V One-Touch Impact Driver (FX1372A) to work on the jobsite the other day, and I’ve got nothing but great things to say about it. 🔥

This is a huge improvement over its predecessor, the Quick Eject. Don’t get me wrong—that impact had an absolute ton of power, but it wasn’t what I’d call a finesse impact. The new FX1372A gives you the best of both worlds. With 2,500 in-lbs of torque and up to 4,100 RPM, it’s got more than enough power for framing, structural screws, lags, and heavy-duty fastening, but it’s also smooth and controllable enough for finish work without constantly overdriving fasteners.

The new One-Touch collet is another feature I didn’t realize I’d appreciate as much as I do. Being able to swap bits one-handed all day long makes a bigger difference than you’d think, especially when you’re constantly bouncing between different fasteners. The ergonomics are also a major upgrade—it feels better balanced, more comfortable in the hand, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite impacts.

Also wanted to give a shout-out to Starborn Industries. I finally got to use their new driver tip that comes with their screws and plugs. I’m sure it’s been out for a little while, but this was my first time using it, and I honestly like it way better than their previous Pro Plug tip. I even prefer it over the Cortex driver. Great job on that one! 👏

We’re moving right along on the Nahant deck project, and this setup has been making the work that much smoother. Stay tuned—there’s a lot more to come! 💪
