NEW AC REQUIREMENTS FOR 2025.
If you own a central AC system, please take a few minutes to read this.
The misinformation on the new A2L refrigerants is running rampid. It's time to address the elephant in the room.
As some may know the federal law regarding AC refrigerant is changing. As of January 1st 2025 manufacturers can no longer manufacturer equipment that uses R410A refrigerant. The new refrigerants like R32 or R454B are mildly flammable. Therefore the equipment has several different safety requirements, and will have to meet new codes. There are multiple rumors circulating. One being the new refrigerants are "PROPANE" or has propane in it. This is totally FALSE. Propane is a highly flammable gas. The new refrigerants being used actually have a low flammability rating.
If anyone is in need of a new system, now is the time to make the switch. Adkinson Mechanical LLC. Has been installing the new A2L equipment for a few months now. Purchasing the old style equipment now is not a good decision, knowing that the cost will skyrocket in the very near future as R410A is phased out.
I get asked all the time, "Is this new stuff dangerous"? The short answer is NO. If your installing contractor has been trained, you have nothing to worry about. Many homes heat with natural gas, which is about eight times more flammable. Also if your refrigerator is less than 7 years old, it has a highly flammable refrigerant in it. As a homeowner you're probably just unaware of these things.
Our company currently trains technicians on the safe handling of flammable refrigerants. We proctor this training and testing through the ESCO Institute, and have certified over 500 technicians this year.
If you are in need of an AC system, make sure to ask your contractor to explain the new requirements to you.
As always. If anyone has any questions or concerns on the new regulations, don't hesitate to ask. We are always willing to answer your questions.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and let's make the transition smooth for everyone.
