One more milestone checked off.

Today we picked up the cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and drawer boxes for this custom kitchen. After weeks of planning, building, and prep work, it’s exciting to finally see everything ready for installation.

Now the focus shifts to fitting, adjusting, and bringing all of the individual pieces together into one finished kitchen.

The difference between a good paint job and a great paint job usually happens before the paint ever comes out.

After filling seams and imperfections with body filler, it’s time to shape everything back into one smooth, continuous surface. It’s dusty, repetitive work, but it’s what helps the finished product look seamless once primer and paint go on.

Every pass of the sander gets us one step closer.

Everybody likes the transformation.

Not everybody appreciates the prep work that makes it possible.

Before fresh primer and paint can go on, every seam, joint, fastener hole, and transition has to disappear. Taking the time to fill, shape, sand, and refine these details is what separates a finished project from one that merely looks finished from across the room.

We’re getting close on this house, and the finishing touches are underway.

People see the finished projects.

They don’t always see the planning that happens before the first tool comes out of the trailer.

A few minutes spent talking through the game plan, identifying potential problems, assigning responsibilities, and making sure everybody is on the same page can save hours once work starts.

Sometimes the most important tool on the jobsite is a conversation.

Sometimes the last 5% of a project takes more problem-solving than the first 95%.

This attic ladder ended up being installed twice. After the original installation, the ceiling was double-hung with an additional layer of drywall, which meant the attic ladder frame was no longer flush with the finished ceiling.

The solution wasn’t to hide it. The solution was to remove it, lower the frame, reinstall it square and solid, and then trim it out properly.

We also had to get creative with the casing layout due to the ceiling height, attic ladder length, and limited space in the utility room. That small sliver of casing in the corner wasn’t an accident—it was the cleanest way to finish the opening while working within the space we had available.

Most people will never notice those details.

That’s usually a sign they were done right.

This trailer has been through years of adjustments, additions, removals, and reorganizing to make it fit the way we work. Shelf heights were built around specific tools and materials, storage was designed around how often items are used, and every section has a purpose.

The goal isn’t to have the prettiest trailer. The goal is to spend less time looking for tools and more time building projects.

It’s still a work in progress, but it’s come a long way from where it started.

What’s one thing you’d add or change?

Everybody has a few tools that don’t look like much but save a ton of time.

Meet the TRIM MASTER 3000™.

This simple jig gives us a consistent 1/4” reveal around doors and windows without constantly reaching for a tape measure. Mark the line, install to the line, and keep everything looking clean and uniform.

Sometimes the best tools aren’t the expensive ones. Sometimes they’re made from scrap material and a Sharpie.

Rain all day.

Sometimes the weather changes the plan, but it doesn’t change the goal.

When we can’t work on what we originally planned, we adjust, find a way to stay productive, and keep the project moving forward. Progress doesn’t always happen under perfect conditions.

The tools are out, the coffee is hot, and we’ve got work to do.

Sometimes a bathroom remodel turns into a lot more than new finishes.

Once the tile floor was removed, we started uncovering the real issue underneath. Rotten subfloor, holes, and structural damage meant there was only one correct solution: remove the damaged material and rebuild it the right way.

The new floor system is officially underway, and this bathroom is on its way to being stronger than it was when it was originally built.

A lot of the most important work on a project is the part nobody will ever see when it’s finished.

Most people only see the “boom.”

They don’t see the estimates, material runs, late nights, mistakes, lessons learned, marketing, networking, phone calls, paperwork, and thousands of small decisions that happen before it.

Every project. Every customer. Every lesson. Every day.

Work. Work. Work. Work. Work.

No results.

But a little better.

Then one day people start recognizing the name, seeing the work, sharing your content, referring your business, and trusting you with their projects.

Keep showing up. Keep improving. Keep building.
