Hal has employed over 1000's from 1976 until present. Hal graduated with a degree in BUILDING TECHNOLOGY. He worked for Jimmy Henderson in Greenwood and then moved to Jackson and worked for a successful construction company that did government contracting though out the southeast. Hal decided to start Cal-Mar in 1976 and concentrated on bidding government work which still to this day is 95% of wh
at the company bids and Hal's passion. Cal-Mar incorporated Recreational Construction which includes tennis courts, playground equipment etc., for state and federal work in 2003. He keeps a working crew of around 10 employees outside the business. The office staff has always included mostly family. At present in the office; family that works for the business include his wife Betty, bookkeeper. His youngest daughter Whitney, office manager and his son-in-law Rob Gilreath, project manager, and second in hand cost estimator bidding and overseeing most outside projects. Over the past 36 years Hal had several of his daughters work for him and would bring their newborn infants with them to avoid daycare sickness. Each grandchild stayed with their mothers at Cal-Mar until they were almost 2 years old. A total of 6 grandchildren have had daycare at Cal-Mar. In the past 36 years Cal-Mar has employed nephews, son-in-laws, a step son and several friends sons. The daughters that do not work for Cal-Mar at present are always on hand to come and help when necessary. To say the least Cal-Mar is a 'family' owned business.
