Summer in the garden looks a little different every year. 🌿

Some plants thrive despite the heat.
Some are finishing their season and giving me seeds for the next one.
And sometimes…the garden surprises you with a whole family of unexpected guests. 🐇🤎

This summer, a rabbit family decided my garden was a pretty good place to call home.

And that’s what I love about creating a garden—it becomes so much more than a place to grow vegetables.

It becomes a place that feeds you, changes with the seasons, welcomes life, and gives your family a reason to step outside and see what’s happening today.

Now imagine what your backyard could look like next summer.

If you’ve been dreaming about growing your own food but aren’t sure where to start—or you want a beautiful, productive garden designed and built for you—I can help.

🌱 SAVE THIS for your August garden game plan!

August isn't just back-to-school month around here — it's back-to-gardening month. 🎒➡️🌿

Here's the part that surprises people: it's actually backwards from what you'd think.

🌡️ RIGHT NOW: Start your cool season seeds (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collards, basil) — but INDOORS or in full shade. They will straight up wilt and burn if you put them outside in this heat. Think of it as a little nursery phase before they ever touch your garden bed.

🌙 MID-TO-LATE AUGUST: Once the nights finally start cooling down a bit, THAT'S when your warm season transplants (fall tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, and more) go outside.

Two phases, one month. Save this graphic so you don't have to remember all of it. 📌

* = start from seed | ** = start from transplant

Organic gardening in Houston doesn't follow the calendar you'll find online — our seasons run on their own logic. That's exactly why I built the Vibrant Garden Experience — 6 weeks to help you skip the years of guesswork I went through. Coming back this fall, waitlist link in bio. 🌱

Your patio containers can produce AND look pin-worthy — even in a Houston summer. The formula: one Producer, one Bloomer, one Spiller. Swipe for 3 combos that do both. 🌶️🍅🌸

Full episode (link in bio) breaks down why containers struggle in our heat, the #1 pot mistake almost everyone makes, and the watering + shade rhythm that keeps them producing.

Every July I see gardeners rushing to the garden center for sprays and quick fixes.
And I get it. Something is eating your plants and you want it to stop.
But here's what 15 years of organic gardening in Houston has taught me — by the time you're reacting, the window has already passed.
The gardens that sail through summer pest season aren't lucky. They were set up differently in spring. The right flowers to invite beneficial insects. The right spacing for airflow. The right soil to grow plants strong enough to recover.
That system is what I break down in this week's episode — what it actually looks like, what pests I'm dealing with in my own garden right now, and the three steps I take before I ever reach for anything.

Houston gardeners — June is NOT too late to plant. 🌱

After a very rainy May and a surprisingly long spring, summer is finally here in full force.

That means it’s time to lean into the heat-loving crops — the ones that actually thrive when Houston feels like a sauna. 😅

If you have empty bed space right now, don’t leave it bare. You can still plant plenty and harvest abundance this season.

What to plant in June:

🌿 Okra
🍠 Sweet potatoes
🌶️ Peppers
🍆 Eggplant
🥒 Cucumbers
🫘 Southern peas / yardlong beans
🌿 Basil
🌸 Zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, and other pollinator-friendly flowers

This is not the season to fight the heat with cool-weather crops.

It’s the season to plant what loves the heat, mulch well, water deeply, and keep your garden productive through summer.
