🏔️ Ever wonder how well drilling works in the mountains of North Carolina?
Drilling a water well in the mountains can be very different from drilling in flatter areas! The geology beneath the surface plays a huge role in where and how we find water.
⛰️ Here’s how it works:
💧 1. We evaluate the property.
The location, elevation, surrounding wells, and local geology can all help determine the best place to drill.
🚜 2. We bring in the drilling rig and water truck.
Mountain properties can present challenges like steep driveways, narrow access, and uneven terrain. Our equipment is big and heavy, sometimes job sites might need a little extra work. Some wells can be drilled in a day and others can take several days.
🪨 3. We drill through soil and rock.
In many parts of Western North Carolina, we drill through layers of soil and solid rock to reach fractures underground that hold and carry groundwater.
💦 4. We find the water-bearing fractures.
Unlike areas with large underground water tables, mountain wells often depend on cracks and fractures in the bedrock where water naturally flows and collects.
🔧 5. We install the water system.
Once the well is drilled, a pump, and other components are installed to bring water to your home.
Every property is different, which means every well can be a little different too! Your neighbors well could be more shallow or deeper than yours. We never know what depth your well will be until we drill it.
