Ever wonder about the thought process behind your favorite local spots? 🌴

Architectural magic is all about problem-solving. When designing The Garden, the challenge was keeping a deep corner space from feeling dark and closed off.

By “evaporating” the roofline at the corner, bringing in natural light, and incorporating those gorgeous cabbage palms, an urban oasis was born. ☀️

We are incredibly honored and grateful to receive the AIA Florida Design Award: Citation Award of Excellence Renovations and Additions.

Thank you to AIA for this meaningful recognition and for celebrating the thoughtful design, collaboration, and craftsmanship behind this project.

Awards like these are a reminder of why we do what we do: to create spaces that are not only beautiful, but deeply connected to the people who live in them.

We are especially thankful to our clients for trusting us with their vision and to the talented team, consultants, and partners whose dedication brought this home to life.

It is a privilege to have this work recognized by our peers, and we are truly grateful for the honor. ❤️

Did you know everything south of Main Street used to be underwater?

Step back in time to 1559 when De Luna first arrived, and this exact road was nothing but shoreline.

Building on a foundation of centuries-old ship ballast comes with massive structural challenges, especially when engineering an open-air pavilion designed to withstand hurricane-force winds without acting like a giant sail.

What stands today as The Garden represents an incredible blend of history, intense engineering, and community transformation!

Meet Sydney, our summer intern! ☀️

Originally from Navarre and currently studying Architecture at the University of Florida, Sydney is spending her summer exploring the many paths the industry has to offer.

Growing up around construction through her family’s HVAC business, she’s had a front-row seat to the building process for years. That exposure sparked an interest in design, development, and the spaces where people live, work, and gather.

This summer, she’s gaining hands-on experience, learning from our team, and discovering where her passion for architecture may lead next.

We’re excited to have her with us and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes! 👏🏼

A farmhouse built for a new family, set in a coastal area better known for beaches and salt air.

This project with the owner was a thoughtful process that took time but stayed on course from start to finish. Every step moved the vision forward, with a clear focus on getting it right rather than rushing the outcome.

The result is a home that feels grounded, warm, and right at home in its setting. A farmhouse spirit brought into a coastal community, and a project that came together exactly as hoped. 🤍

Ever wonder how an 1885 historic home stands the test of time? 🏡

Down in the lower part of the historic district, this beauty has survived thanks to some incredibly smart original design, like raising it high off the ground!

But the real magic is balancing that history with modern needs.

We were able to design a brand-new addition featuring a carport and mother-in-law suite that complements the original structure perfectly.

Preserving history while making it livable for today, that’s what it’s all about!

She brings a fresh perspective, a strong foundation in architecture, and a heart for meaningful design. We’re excited to see all she’ll accomplish as part of the DSA team.

There’s a reason old homes were built to last.

At the Lola Lee house, we’re always looking beyond what’s being torn out and focusing on what can still be saved.

One standout is heart pine lumber: dense, durable wood that was used in true craftsmanship days and is often stronger than what’s available today.

Alongside that, the original concrete steps with their timeless sidewalls are another favorite worth preserving.

Good design isn’t always about starting over. Sometimes it’s about recognizing what’s already worth keeping. ❤️

Scott recently spent time in South Carolina for a two-day visit with a leading brick manufacturer, taking in their process alongside the rich architectural character of the region. 🧱

From historic masonry to thoughtfully designed modern spaces, it’s always valuable to step back and see how materials and craftsmanship shape the places we live in. 🤍
