Some of these are worth digging up and replanting in your garden. Others are w**ds. Beauty is in the eye of yhe beholder. 🌱🌻🌿

You see a wildflower on the trail and you want to know what it is. Start with color. It narrows twenty possibilities down to five in one second.

Yellow column — the black-eyed Susan has a dark center and recurved petals. The goldenrod has plumes, not individual flowers. The evening primrose opens at dusk and closes by morning. If the flowers are open at noon, it's not her.

Purple column — wild bergamot has a shaggy head and square stems (she's in the mint family). Spiderwort has three petals and blooms only in the morning. By afternoon, the flowers are gone.

🌿 The one detail that changes how you look at white flowers:

Queen Anne's lace has a single purple dot in the center of the umbrella. Once you know to look for it, you'll never confuse her with anything else again.

And in the pink-to-red column — cardinal flower grows in scarlet spikes along streams. She's built for hummingbirds. Nothing else in the yard is that red.

Color first. Then shape, leaf, and habitat. Four clues and you have the species 🌱

Pollinator Friendly Gardens
Hummingbirds love tubular or trumpet shaped flowers like coral honeysuckle, Firebush, Salvia, Cigar Plant, and Pentas to name a few. Butterflies like Coreopsis, Blanket flower, Black-Eyed Susan, Milkw**d, and Passionflower.

🌱🌿COLEUS 🌿🌱
Beautiful mounding plants that are known for their various leaf colors and shapes. Easily propagated by snipping off 4-6" stem and placing in water for 2-3 weeks. Roots will appear.

Plant Spotlight: Pink Muhly Grass
This ornamental grass grows 2-3 tall & wide. It loves full/partial sun and those pink feathery plumes show up to add fall color. It's drought tolerant once established & can take the heat and temps down to zero in the winter.
