What’s the best small home elevator? The Ascenda, made by Cibes Symmetry, is the best home elevator for homeowners who want a two-floor solution with automatic doors and an easy install.

Ascenda is designed to travel between two levels with a single floor pe*******on. It doesn't require a dedicated elevator shaft, and you don't need to locate a pit or machine room. This lets you decide where it fits in your plans, based on location within your home.

A ventilation fan and automatic saloon doors are also standard on the Ascenda. Except for the smallest size, a fold-down chair is standard. These features can be especially helpful if you're improving accessibility from an upper-level bedroom to other parts of your home, or if you want a comfortable way to move between floors.

Still, no matter which option best fits your lifestyle, it starts with your home and how you plan to use it. Local dealers or our direct stores that sell Cibes Symmetry products can assess the available space, whether there's enough open area for a floor pe*******on, and the room size needed for safe entry and exit.

What is the 4-inch and three-quarter-inch rule on home elevator doors?

Two separate clearances intended to help prevent children from getting trapped

The rule governs two distinct clearance spaces at the swing doors that are covered under this rule:

• The ¾-inch clearance relates to the distance the landing door's shaft- facing surface is away from the shaft- side edge of the landing sill or threshold.

• The 4-inch clearance refers to how closely together the landing door is to the elevator car door or gate, meaning the space between the two closed doors should be sufficiently small to keep a ball with a diameter of 4 inches from passing through.

Both measurements relate to spaces many homeowners are unlikely to notice. A homeowner may believe their elevator is working properly, yet an unsafe gap may still exist around the door.

Important Safety Notice: Bella Elevator, LLC recalls for repair Symmetry branded IGD, Hydraulic, and Winding Drum Elevators sold between 2009 and 2021. Young children can become entrapped in the space between the exterior landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door or gate due to a hazardous gap, and suffer serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor.
