There are two sets of stairs in the home, one in the foyer at the main entry and another at the entry from the garage. The family lives on a farm, so it was important to them to have a separate entry to keep the farm mess and storage away from the entry guests would use.

This home has two suites; One on the main level and one on the upper level. This was due to some great advanced planning by the homeowners. They have 8 kids, while the kids are young the parents will stay in the suite upstairs to be close to the other bedrooms. As the family ages the parents could move down to the main level suite, currently being used as a guest suite.

The couple did a lot of the work building the home themselves with some help from a family friend who could "cobble things together without a formal plan in an absolutely amazing way" says the homeowner. It was his idea to use the culvert pipe for pillars, he built the stairs leading down to the patio and incorporated the two crosses in the stone by the entry.

The kitchen's proximity to the dining room and great room's living space is key. But the homeowner says that the set-up also preserves her peace of mind. Putting the kitchen on the opposite side of the dining room was done purposely
"because kitchens can be a mess. So if you separate that space you don't have to be looking at the kitchen when you are sitting there." the homeowner explained.
