🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Today, as America celebrates its 250th birthday, we’re reminded that our nation’s greatest strength has always been its people.

Over the past 250 years, our understanding of wellness has evolved, and so has the architecture that supports it.

• 1776 – Communities emphasized cleanliness, responsibility, and healthy living as the foundation for a strong society.

• 1876 – As America industrialized, architecture responded with better sanitation, fresh air, natural light, and public parks that improved quality of life.

• 1976 – The wellness movement expanded beyond treating illness to promoting holistic health, inspiring biophilic design and environments centered on human experience.

• 2026 – Today, we recognize that wellness is about far more than healthcare. It includes physical, emotional, social, environmental, and community well-being. Through Designing Wellness™, we create spaces that are regenerative, resilient, and designed to help people thrive.

As we look toward America’s next 250 years, we believe architecture has an even greater responsibility - to enrich lives, strengthen communities, and improve human well-being.

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at PMBA Architects!

Project Highlight: The University of Toledo Savage Arena – Venture Visionary Partners Courtside Club | This project brings together the energy of sport with a refined hospitality setting, placing an exclusive lounge courtside and directly adjacent to the team tunnels. The proximity allows guests to experience the movement and build-up of the game while the open layout supports comfort and social interaction. A full bar and self-serve buffet are integrated into the space to support networking and client engagement.

Materiality and detailing draw from Venture’s established brand with signature colors, wood slat elements, and a water feature, creating continuity with the headquarters environment. Technology is layered throughout, including corridor-mounted displays for live viewing and a real-time NCAA ticker. The result is an environment tailored for a high-level experience that balances atmosphere, functionality, and brand identity.

What if healthcare felt more like a wellness retreat than a clinic?

At ProMedica’s Icaria Longevity Institute in Toledo, patient centered design takes a leading role, blending hospitality inspired architecture, biophilic elements, and advanced medical technology to support precision diagnostics, performance optimization, and whole person care.
From suite based patient experiences to natural light filled spaces and seamless clinical workflows, this project shows how design itself can become part of the medicine.

15th Annual Symposium on Sustainability in Health Care (SSHC) | We were excited to attend and learn at the 15th Annual Symposium on Sustainability in Health Care Conference earlier this week. Team members from our Cincinnati and Perrysburg offices came together for a full day focused on healthcare design, emerging trends, and new technologies. The event provided valuable opportunities to connect with fellow healthcare professionals, facility managers, designers, architects, and engineers while gaining insights from expert speakers and the keynote luncheon.
